BREAKING: Republicans get devastating news as the renowned Cook Political Report shifts half a dozen House races towards Democrats as money and enthusiasm pours in thanks to Kamala Harris.
But it gets even better...
The new numbers remove one toss-up race while adding three new ones, resulting in 24 total toss-up races this election.
The shift also means that Democrats stand poised to possibly take the four seats they need for a House majority, which would in turn empower a President Kamala Harris to pass historic legislation.
"Two months out from Election Day, Democrats’ prospects for taking control of the House are looking considerably brighter than they did two months ago. Democratic candidates are no longer burdened by an unpopular incumbent president, free to run in a political environment where Republicans no longer have a clear enthusiasm advantage, and continue to fill their campaign coffers as Republicans’ fundraising lags," said Cook’s Erin Covey in the analysis.
The battle for Republican Representatives Don Bacon's seat in Nebraska and Republican Representative Michelle Steel’s in California have both moved from "lean Republican" to "toss up."
Democratic Representative Marcy Kaptur’s race in Ohio has moved from "toss up" to "lean Democrat"
Democratic Representative Henry Cuellar’s race in Texas has moved to a "likely" blue win.
Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz’s race in Florida is now in "solid" Democratic territory.
Republican Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks’s race in Iowa has dropped from a "likely" red win to "lean" Republican.
Good news aside, two races have also shifted towards Republicans, but overall the changes benefit Democrats.
Now, the total count stands at 203 seats favoring Democrats and 208 favoring Republicans, with toss-ups almost evenly split.
As Harris continues campaigning and Trump ignites more scandals, it seems likely that Democratic numbers will only improve further.
"We ultimately believe the most likely outcome is a single-digit gain for either party — though Democrats have more opportunities to pick up seats, since Republicans hold a few more Toss Up seats," Covey’s analysis stated.
