Òyígíyigì is a rock in the water, meaning something solid that remains unshaken. That’s why many Yoruba Christians also refer to God as Òyígíyigì, emphasizing His unshakable and everlasting nature.

This reminded me of something that happened years ago.

A friend’s husband was hosting an event at Irewe, Lagos, and we had to get there by boat. The hosts had gone earlier with my little sister, who was about 7 at the time.

On the day of the trip, I was to go with my dad and a few other friends. That morning, my mum called me aside and begged me not to go. She said she’d had a dream and suggested I stay back while only my dad went. My mum has always been uncomfortable with anything involving boat trips.

I told her it was probably because she was already worried and asked her to just pray for us.

She barely slept until we returned a few days later.

Thankfully, the trip went well and I had an amazing time… but looking back now, I’m not sure I will try it again 🤣😂
