Member States have much greater ownership and will be able to implement relevant reforms and investments in exchange of a longer time for fiscal adjustments, while stronger and more credible enforcement will ensure that governments keep up on their commitments. 3/5

After the @Europarl_EN plenary vote of last week today the @EUCouncil gave its final stamp of approval to the new stability and growth pact.

The reform is a fundamental change in fiscal surveillance in the EU, with a much better balance between debt sustainability and growth. 🧵

The new fiscal rules will :
🔹 ensure sound and sustainable public finances
🔹 support growth, jobs and the green and digital transitions

The new medium-term perspective for debt sustainability will help to improve quality and composition of public finances, promoting investment and avoiding that Member States are pushed into pro-cyclical policy choices that privilege current expenditure. 2/5

I welcome the political agreement on our 11th sanctions package.

It will deal a further blow to Putin’s war machine with tightened export restrictions, targeting entities supporting the Kremlin.

Our anti-circumvention tool will prevent Russia from getting its hands on sanctioned goods.

@giovanni_farese Caro Giovanni, i dettagli sono molti, ma abbiamo cercato di tenere conto di molte istanze diverse. Per questo sono sinceramente convinto che la proposta sia bilanciata. Vedremo presto come va il negoziato, l’Ecofin di marzo si è posto come scadenza fine 2023.
