The gold her father never saw:

Asmita Dey's journey from tragic loss to Commonwealth Gold.

Her father, a cycle mechanic who earned barely ₹300 a day and raised his family in a mud house in a small village in Tripura, died of a brain stroke 7 months ago.

On Friday, as the 23-year-old became the first Indian judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold in the women's 48kg category, the medal felt as much his as hers.

“When my father passed away, I thought everything had finished because he was the one who supported me.

I am from a very small village in Tripura. People there don't dream this big. But Papa always supported me.”

- Asmita said, struggling to hold back tears after her historic triumph.

The family lived in a modest mud house, but he never allowed financial hardship to become a hurdle in his daughter playing the sport she loved.

When a knee injury threatened to derail her career, he took her to Delhi for treatment, bought medicines and did everything within his means to ensure she could return to the mat.

"He brought me to Delhi for treatment and bought medicines," she recalled.

His sudden death in December last left Asmita devastated. The man who had been her biggest supporter and constant source of reassurance was gone, and with him, she felt, went her dream of competing on the biggest stage.

But while Asmita struggled to come to terms with the loss, her mother quietly stepped into the role her husband had left behind.

Just 10 days after the funeral, she asked her daughter to return to training.

“If I stop you today, your father will think I am shattering your dreams,” she told her.

Asmita packed her bags and returned to the Sports Authority of India centre in Bhopal.

When rain falls, most of it disappears into drains.

But in one district, it began flowing back into the earth.

IAS officer Prathap M, the son of a farmer from Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, grew up understanding the value of water.

As the first graduate in his family, he once cycled kilometres to school with a dream of serving society. Years later, that dream took shape through a simple but powerful idea.

Instead of sealing abandoned borewells, his administration converted over 1,200 unused borewells into rainwater-harvesting recharge structures, allowing monsoon water to seep back into underground aquifers.

The result was visible after just one monsoon.

Groundwater levels reportedly rose by 5 to 10 feet in several areas, helping revive wells and support farming communities.

Sometimes, saving water does not require new resources. It requires reimagining what already exists.

नरसिंहगढ़ रियासत के वीर सपूत, अमर शहीद कुँवर चैन सिंह परमार जी ने मात्र 23 वर्ष की आयु में वर्ष 1827 में भारत की स्वतंत्रता के लिए अपना सर्वोच्च बलिदान दिया। उनका यह बलिदान 1857 की प्रथम स्वतंत्रता क्रांति से लगभग 30 वर्ष पूर्व हुआ था।

"I saw that she was agile, ebullient, and didn't make any fuss. That's when I felt maybe I should take her with me when I go up the mountains," Krishna Raj, Iya's father, told TNIE.

That instinct turned into a journey of grit, preparation, and remarkable milestones.

Today, 8-year-old Iya Krish from Thrissur, Kerala, has conquered Mount Toubkal, the 4,167-metre highest peak in North Africa.

Living in the UAE, Iya spent her weekends trekking with her father across the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. She also trained in Kalaripayattu, building the strength, balance, and endurance needed for high-altitude climbs.

Their preparation paid off. On 7 July 2026, after a demanding three-day, 42 km trek through Morocco's rugged Atlas Mountains with an elevation gain of over 2,900 metres, Iya reached the summit of Mount Toubkal, becoming one of the youngest children to scale North Africa's highest peak.

The feat adds to an already inspiring journey. At just five years and 11 months, Iya became the youngest person to summit Jebel Jais, the UAE's highest mountain.

Now, she's setting her sights even higher: Mount Elbrus, Mount Kilimanjaro, and ultimately, Mount Everest before she turns 12.

Meet Suraj Saini a painter who cracked NEET and is set to be a doctor.

He scored an impressive 99.1593559 percentile with 583 marks in the NEET-UG-2026 results.

Suraj completed studies up to 8th class government school in Kapren but after dispute between his parents, he along with mother came to his maternal parents’ home in Alkodia village in Talera in Bundi district and enrolled in in 9th class in local government school.

Despite the hardships, Suraj never let his academic focus slip and scored 87% in Class 10 and 85% in Class 12.

Initially inspired by his maternal aunt, who works as an ANM nurse in Jodhpur's healthcare department, Suraj chose Biology stream and locked his sights on becoming a doctor.

However, meeting basic daily expenses was a constant battle for Suraj’s family.

He instead of succumbing to adverse conditions, stepped up and learned trade of house painting under guidance of his maternal uncle (Mama).

Because of financial crunch, his younger sister, Garima, was forced to discontinue her education after Class 8 to join mother, Ghisi Bai in agriculture fields.

A man earning ₹18,000 a month saved little by little to buy a ₹1,350 school bag for his daughter.

While buying it, he told the shopkeeper, "Please give me a strong one. It should last for a long time."

The next day, his daughter proudly took the new bag to school. Her classmates loved it. Everyone wanted to see it. Some opened the zipper, some checked the pockets, and some even tried it on.

While looking at the bag, one child accidentally pulled the zipper too hard, and it broke.

The classroom became silent.

A friend said, "Let's tell the teacher who broke it."

The girl walked toward the teacher but then stopped. She thought, "Dad worked so hard to buy this bag. I'll ask him first what I should do."

When she reached home, she tried to hide the bag, but her father noticed the broken zipper.

He gently asked, "What happened, dear?"

Through tears, she explained everything and asked, "Should I complain to the teacher tomorrow?"

Her father smiled and said, "I'm not worried about the ₹1,350 bag. I'm happy that you didn't blame anyone in anger. Sometimes people make mistakes without meaning to."

The next day at school, the girl whose hands had broken the zipper came to her with ₹500 from her piggy bank and said, "This is all I have right now. I'll pay the rest later."

The daughter refused to take the money.

When she told her father about it that evening, he smiled and said,

"See, if you had argued or complained immediately, you might have lost a friend. But because you stayed calm and trusted her, she got the chance to admit her mistake."

That day, the daughter learned an important lesson:

Money can replace things, but honesty, kindness, and the courage to accept a mistake are far more valuable.

अपने विश्वसनीय सूत्रों से मिली विशेष जानकारी के आधार पर 30 जुलाई 2024 से मणिपुर के एक संवेदनशील क्षेत्र के पास असामाजिक तत्वों की गतिविधियों पर नज़र रखने के लिए एक विशेष टोही (रेकी) टीम तैनात की गई।

5 अगस्त 2024 की रात लगभग 9:30 बजे टीम ने देखा कि 12 हथियारबंद उग्रवादी आसपास के इलाके में लोगों से जबरन वसूली (उगाही) कर रहे थे। कंपनी कमांडर सहायक कमांडेंट एशेंथुंग किकोन ने तुरंत अपनी टीम को सक्रिय किया। जवानों ने उग्रवादियों को ललकारा और उनसे भिड़ गए। स्थिति इतनी नज़दीकी हो गई कि आमने-सामने हाथापाई तक की नौबत आ गई।

इस बीच अतिरिक्त सुरक्षा बलों ने पूरे इलाके की घेराबंदी कर दी, जिससे कोई भी उग्रवादी भाग नहीं सका। मुठभेड़ के दौरान एक हथियारबंद उग्रवादी ने अपनी लाइट मशीन गन (एलएमजी) तैयार कर जवानों पर तान दी। अपने साथियों की जान पर मंडरा रहे गंभीर खतरे को देखते हुए और आवश्यक चेतावनी देने के बाद सहायक कमांडेंट एशेंथुंग किकोन ने अद्भुत साहस और सूझबूझ का परिचय देते हुए एक गोली चलाई। गोली उग्रवादी की दाहिनी कोहनी में लगी, जिससे वह घायल हो गया और अपनी स्वचालित बंदूक का इस्तेमाल करने में असमर्थ हो गया।

असाधारण साहस और पेशेवर दक्षता का परिचय देते हुए सहायक कमांडेंट एशेंथुंग किकोन और उनकी टीम ने सभी 12 हथियारबंद उग्रवादियों को काबू कर लिया। उनके पास से पाँच हथियार, भारी मात्रा में गोलाबारूद और युद्ध में इस्तेमाल होने वाला अन्य सामान बरामद किया गया।
घटना के बाद आसपास बड़ी संख्या में लोगों के इकट्ठा होने और रास्ते बंद होने की आशंका थी। ऐसी स्थिति में सहायक कमांडेंट एशेंथुंग किकोन ने सूझबूझ से काम लेते हुए गिरफ्तार उग्रवादियों को सुरक्षित स्थान पर पहुँचाया। उन्होंने घायल उग्रवादी को तुरंत प्राथमिक उपचार दिलाया और आगे के इलाज के लिए अस्पताल भिजवाया।
अपनी समझदारी, त्वरित निर्णय क्षमता और उत्कृष्ट नेतृत्व के कारण उन्होंने सभी गिरफ्तार उग्रवादियों को बिना किसी अतिरिक्त तनाव या हिंसा के स्थानीय पुलिस के हवाले कर दिया। इससे क्षेत्र की आंतरिक सुरक्षा की स्थिति बिगड़ने नहीं पाई।

अपने अदम्य साहस, कर्तव्यनिष्ठा, उत्कृष्ट नेतृत्व और ड्यूटी से बढ़कर किए गए वीरतापूर्ण कार्यों के लिए सहायक कमांडेंट एशेंथुंग किकोन को "शौर्य चक्र" से सम्मानित किया गया।

The Republic of Balochistan is a land where temples and mosques are not symbols of hatred, but two strong pillars of love, respect, and mutual trust. The Baloch people have always taught that places of worship may differ, but humanity remains one.

Balochistan is not only struggling for its own freedom; it is also making sacrifices for the protection of temples, mosques, gurdwaras, churches, and all sacred places of worship their bells, their calls to prayer, their hymns, and their prayers. Because a civilized nation understands that protecting places of worship is, in fact, protecting humanity itself.

To recognize Balochistan as a free country does not merely mean that a piece of land has become free from Pakistan’s illegal occupation. Its deeper meaning is that humanity itself is liberated from hatred, prejudice, and oppression.

It means that the high walls of hatred are brought down forever, and the doors of love are opened for all people. It means that temple bells ring once again, that peaceful calls to prayer rise from mosques, that hymns echo through gurdwaras, and that prayers fill churches, while every human being is able to worship freely and without fear.
