Are you a writer with a finished manuscript, looking to self-publish and need an editor?
I have an opening for early April, and I'm keen to work with a new writer on a sci-fi/fantasy project. If that's you, just shoot me a DM — can't wait to hear from you! 😁 #WritingCommunity
Amazing online writer's session with @LeedsWriting last night. No better reaction as a horror writer than someone literally tearing at their face as you reveal a short story's plot twist. 😌
After a difficult few months and a long break from social media, I’m back with a book in hand. Needed an immersive deep dive, and this has been on my TBR list for years!
@111Hobbiton I’ve been meaning to read Stieg Larsson’s Millennium books for a while, but I’ve heard that he captures bisexuality well. Happy to answer any questions you might have from a personal perspective! Always great to see people caring about representation. 😄
@_KatherineBook Used books in charity shops? Absolutely. Makes reading more accessible whilst helping out a good cause. For-profit shops? Never seen one around here, but lost royalties (of still in-print books) going into someone else’s pocket feels wrong. Need to think about it a bit more!
@_Rae_Knowles Thrillers are more defined by their pace and structure (the twists and turns) whereas horror lit is more defined by its elements (monsters, gore, etc.) That’s where I’d draw the line, personally. They can and often do overlap, though, especially in serial killer crime fiction.
@SoCal_Chemistry Depends! Is it a hobby? Write whenever you want to write. Is it your job (or do you want it to be)? You have to treat it like a job. That means showing up pretty much every day.
@SofieSybella Dark fantasy writer/editor here — and I've been meaning to try out some more sci-fi, too! Always looking to connect with more SFF writers in the #WritingCommunity! 😁
@theresalkrupp I recall that @ScholarlyFox does “previously on...” chapters at the start of a sequel. (Or at least he did in the ones I’ve read!) Told from a character’s POV, it was a pretty nice touch!
@sjlhollister I write with tea and edit with even more tea! Or (in truly desperate times) a can of Coke. If I wrote drunk, I’d barely finish a paragraph. 😬#WritingCommunity
@theresalkrupp Traditional publishers aren’t infallible when it comes to editing. I’ve found plenty of mistakes — even in a B5 Writer’s Manual! As long as an indie author invests in a competent editor, their readers will get the same quality they get from the Big Five.
@LostBoysPress I separate fiction and non-fiction with different bookcases. And then they’re further separated by type (paperback then hardback). And then they’re ordered by height, author surname/forename, and then (finally) publication date.
I have a problem. 😅
@writingiswar 100%! Nobody bats an eye (rightly so) at content warnings for films, video games, etc., so why not books?
What confuses me more is the overlap between the pro-ESRB crowd of the 90s and the anti-CW crowd of today.
After a weekend of thinking I’m a talentless hack, I had a good day of writing today. And then it’s my online writers’ group tonight so that’s even better. ☺️
How’s your Monday treating you?

@theresalkrupp Impossible to strike perfect balance, so I try to err on the side of “too much”. Readers can skip over description if they’re so inclined, but there’s only so many blanks they can fill on their own. (Also depends on the audience - compare legal thrillers with YA fantasy.)
