Imagine being a tax paying Calgarian or a tax paying Albertan and being denied the services you’ve paid for and are eligible for - that’s what’s being proposed by Alberta’s conservative leaders.
And they’ll do so based on class and status.

@chrisdoyle78 Not a great comparison imo
Eliminating a public space and a universally accessible public system despite knowing it will have no effect on safety vs. Not letting people use a transit terminal for a home
And yet in both situations, a home solves the problem more than a ticket.
Ending the Free Fare Zone with no evidence and no public support?
This is just policing the poor and it won’t create safety - only help can do that
More homes. Safer shelters. Harm reduction. Recovery and care. That’s safety
Save the Free Fare Zone!

My heart is full with all of the kind, supportive, emotionally regulated responses!
Ward 13 Twitter is a warm and welcoming community! Truly representative of the culture my friend Dan has cultivated and I look forward to him cultivating that culture at the provincial level ❤️❤️
It is my pleasure to announce I will be running for the ward 13 seat upon McLean’s vacancy.
Councillor McLean and I share such deep values and brotherhood, and it is only right that I continue his good work.

@RobWardCGY My article doesn’t say residents should be treated as a problem.
It discusses how an abject reverence for direct democracy is being weaponized to justify political decisions following actions that manipulate public opinion.
I trust we can agree that is bad for our democracy.
People speaking up about their communities isn’t “weaponized democracy”it is democracy.
When residents organize, sign petitions, or demand a say in decisions that affect their neighbourhoods, that’s not something to fear. It’s something to respect.
Dismissing those voices as somehow dangerous simply because they don’t align with a particular viewpoint misses the point.
And when leaders stop listening, voters notice.
In Ward 11, we just saw the result: the largest defeat of an incumbent in Calgary’s history.
Democracy isn’t dangerous, ignoring people is.
@RobWardCGY Very true that representative democracy depends on public input, but it does not depend on public consent.
Public consent is direct democracy.
Do you disagree with Chabot for voting against fluoridating drinking water? Did he betray the public from your perspective?
This doesn’t sound right…
I don’t know what the percentages of properties in new vs Estab communities is today. Sounds like the idea is to let older communities either whither or become havens for wealth
While sprawling so much that 51% of net properties are on the outskirts
To receive the final HAF payment, a
majority of properties in Calgary will need to allow 4 units as a right. Farkas says this can be achieved as new Neighbourhoods on the outskirts are zoned to allow for this.
“Premier Smith and the governing UCP are slowly making public education a “pay-to-play” system, and they’re using your property tax bill to do it.”

@AlbertaBogieman@14thBaseline They do pay. Because we need more teachers because of a growing population.
That growing population pays income taxes. Per capita, it’s more expensive to pay for the education of rural students.
Calgary subsidizes rural education - not the other way around.
@14thBaseline@AlbertaBogieman No point in arguing, I don’t think you’ve really understood what I’m saying and that’s okay. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough.
Have a good day!
