More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongs—because that was an America that had a place for me, too.
Encouraging conversation with President and CEO of Catholic Relief Services Sean Callahan. We discussed humanitarian aid to Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, and across Africa, as well as the important role of the United States as the world’s most generous donor. We will continue to collaborate on efforts to resolve conflicts per the leadership and agenda of @POTUS .
In #Somali Region, @WFP is strengthening the resilience of communities through IFTIIN project, moving beyond emergency support toward self‑reliance by expanding water access, restoring land & supporting climate‑smart livelihoods. 🌱🇪🇹

Met with Ethiopian Foreign Minister @GHessebon today to discuss expanding our security partnership and increasing commercial opportunities between our two nations.
Today, Ambassador Massinga and Embassy leadership met with Dr. Selamawit Dawit and officials from Ethiopia's Immigration and Citizenship Services (ICS) @ics_ethiopia to strengthen our collaboration.
We expressed gratitude for ICS's recent proclamation providing U.S. citizens of #Ethiopian origin an opportunity to regularize their immigration status with reduced fees. This important step forward has already helped Americans return home safely.
The Embassy remains committed to working with Ethiopian authorities to ensure U.S. citizens understand and follow Ethiopian immigration regulations.
Together, we're working toward regular cooperation at all levels to better serve both our communities.

My Uncle Alexander Kimakia.
After living in the United States for over 40 years, my Uncle Alexander Kimakia, at the age of 70, finally relocated back to Kenya this year, settling in his mega 5-bedroom house at Mushroom Gardens Estate along Kiambu Road, a project that took him nearly 10 years to complete.
Now in Kenya and in his house, Uncle Alexander Kimakia lives in the living room of the house downstairs while his caretaker lives upstairs in his huge master bedroom.
This is because Uncle Alexander Kimakia cannot climb the stairs without the help of another person.
Even with help, it takes him 10 minutes to make the climb.
As such, Uncle Alexander Kimakia has decided to stay downstairs in the living room as all 5 bedrooms are upstairs.
The house has a living room, toilet and kitchen downstairs; 3 rooms on the first floor and another 2 rooms (including the master bedroom) on the second/last floor.
This is surely not how Uncle Alexander Kimakia anticipated his retirement.
But that is the reality of his journey.
This will be the life of many other Africans living abroad and building mansions back home.
In fact, if you are building a dream house for yourself to live in and the house is not ready by the time you attain the age of 50, forget about it!
Uncle Alexander Kimakia virtually wasted 40 years of his life doing menial jobs abroad, hoping to go and retire back home in his mansion and enjoy life.
But, now he has no life to enjoy and someone else is sleeping in his master bedroom.
Like most aged persons, Uncle Alexander Kimakia is not even able to enjoy a bottle of Malt because it will shoot up his blood sugar level.
Yet, he said he was working hard all his life in order to enjoy life, which includes eating and drinking the finest foods and drinks, when he retires.
Now, he is only able to eat fruit and vegetable salads - and even that, without dressing!
He cannot even eat any of the fine meats out there without his cholesterol sending warning signs.
That is the life of Uncle Alexander Kimakia in retirement.
This will be the story of more than half of us. The best thing to do is to take mini-retirements now and enjoy.
H.E. Amb. @GideonBehar and Mrs. Eke Behar were delighted to host 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗚𝘂𝘆𝗼 𝗔𝗱𝗵𝗲, @WGAdhe1 Member of Parliament for North Horr, together with a delegation from @bengurionu, led by 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗬𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗭𝗶𝘃, for a luncheon at the Ambassador’s residence.
Their discussions centered on advancing the Desert Stars Innovation and Sustainability Hub in North Horr — a transformative initiative bringing together Kenyan and Israeli partners to promote smart agriculture, innovation, and climate resilience in Kenya’s arid regions.
The Embassy remains committed to supporting partnerships that drive sustainable development, youth empowerment, and regional cooperation.

Today at my office, I received Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor for Africa at the U.S. Department of State, with whom I held discussions on a range of issues.
U.S. humanitarian assistance to #Ethiopia is transforming, but it is not ending. Far from it—the United States continues to be the largest donor of humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia. That is why U.S. Ambassador Massinga visited Shire, #Tigray Region, on May 20, 2025. Ambassador Massinga witnessed distribution of U.S. humanitarian assistance first-hand and spoke to IDPs in two different camps. It is imperative that IDPs return home.
''Just landed in Shire and ready for a full day of engagement. I will observe U.S. humanitarian assistance in action—supporting communities displaced from conflict. I also plan to meet with regional leaders to advocate for peace, political inclusion, and the full implementation of the #COHA.'' - Ambassador Ervin Massinga
🚨 Over 10 million people in #Ethiopia face hunger & malnutrition due to conflict, drought, & economic shocks.
Without immediate funding, @WFP will be forced to halt life-saving assistance for the most vulnerable in #Ethiopia.
