@pgorman21 It definitely made it easier to sympathize with the characters because even though they might make bad decisions in the book, affecting other people negatively, the reader can still understand the character's intentions.
One thing that I really like about Pachinko by Min Jin Lee is that the perspective shifts from person to person as the book goes on. Where you might understand the motivations of one character at the time, the consequences of that action are seen in the eyes of others. #apread19
@arybacki21 How does Eddie's desire to fit in develop over the course of the book? Does he eventually learn to accept himself and stop trying to be someone else?
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee deals with loss very interestingly. It approaches it as if it is not a big deal, feeling slightly anticlimactic. It makes the story more realistic because even when the book loses main characters, the story must continue, just as life goes on. #apread19
The book I'm reading is called Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. It's about a Korean family and starts during the Japanese occupation. I like how it's generational, starting with the story of a mother and following the stories of her child, continuing to her children and so on. #apread19
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee begins during the Japanese occupation, and covers a period that is rarely discussed. This period was just a part of history to me, but the book puts a name and story behind each person, playing on the reader's empathy for each character. #apread19

It is crazy that even in captivity, the terrorist is still loyal to ISIS. Do you think that he deserves the death penalty? #marchpd2 https://t.co/eYZbouYlln
