I just finished The Summer Girls, by Mary Alice Monroe. I like how the author made it a full circle ending and educated readers about the dangers of human interaction with wildlife. I don't like how there was no main conflict of the story, it was a series of conflicts. #apread19
In Fresh off the Boat, the main character seems to veer away from being the stereotypical model minority, and instead fights back against any discrimination. #apread19
The book i'm reading is Fresh Off the Boat. The author tells the story in a very unrefined way, which I found refreshing as It portrays his rough environment and how it changed him growing up. #apread19
i just finished the book and i think it ended beautifully and left no questions unanswered. the story came full circle and beautifullly depicted the deep bond and trust between ari and dante realistically and how the two grew and impacted each other #apread19
Starr is brought down to the police station to testify about Khalil's shooting. Starr realizes that the officers are asking more questions about whether Khalil was a trouble maker than about the night of the shooting. I wonder if she will fight for Khalil's justice. #apread19
I have to say that so far I am not a huge fan of the writing style of my book. I feel like it is comparable to a cliche spy movie. I also feel like the characters are a bit stereotypical, although the action and scientific weapons/projects are interesting. #apread19
In my book, (David and Goliath) the part about ivy-league schools not always being an advantage really interested me. I've always assumed the more prestigious the school is, the better you will do. However, Gladwell challenges that opinion in this novel. #apread19
Just finished David and Goliath! Really great book. Gladwell has really challenged me to re-evaluate things I view are advantages- such as small class sizes, ivy-league schools, and stricter laws for criminals. #apread19
I started to read The Athena Project by Brad Thor. Although it’s a fictional story about terrorism, I wonder if it holds any truth about the terrorism that happens in our world. I’m also interested in seeing if he relates any events to ones that have happened. #apread19
"It strikes me that I cannot claim this country's serene coves and sun-soaked beaches without also claiming its poverty, its problems, its history" (227). This quote is very relatable for me, especially after traveling to the Philippines this summer. #apread19
Patron Saints of Nothing was an eye-opening read that raised my awareness on the current issues occurring in the Philippines. It was a great chance to understand more about my family's home country and it has helped me in my journey in finding my identity as a Filipino. #apread19
"The same qualities that appear to give [Giants] strength are often the sources of great weakness...being an underdog can change people in ways that we can often fail to appreciate: it can open doors and create opportunities and educate..." (Gladwell 6). How inspiring! #apread19
This summer I started reading "David and Goliath" by Malcolm Gladwell. It is a book about what happens when ordinary people confront giants, whether that be actual gigantic armies, or metaphorical giants, like poverty and oppression. #apread19
I'm reading Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay. The main character, Jay Reguero, and I are both Filipino-American, and it'll be interesting to see what'll happen to him in the Philippines compared to what I've experienced. 50 pages in and I already like the pacing. #apread19

Just finished reading Educated by Tara Westover... I have no words. Westover beautifully writes about her experiences with self discovery, loyalty, family, and education. She talks about what it’s like to really persevere. Everyone should read this phenomenal book. #apread19
I'm currently reading Educated by Tara Westover and I am intrigued to see how Tara overcomes her parents strict survivalist beliefs. She has a desire for knowledge, but her parents distrust hospitals and doctors, the government, and even people who are their friends. #apread19
