@jfriend201 He goes to the Philippines during his spring break, and he's there to find out the truth about his cousin's death. He has a hard time because he can't understand the language and sometimes his uncle puts him into uncomfortable positions because he isn't from there. #apread19
I'm reading Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay. The main character, Jay Reguero, and I are both Filipino-American, and it'll be interesting to see what'll happen to him in the Philippines compared to what I've experienced. 50 pages in and I already like the pacing. #apread19
@nataliaa_carina Reading this novel reminded me that even though I may have never experienced the struggles Filipinos face in the mainland, it's still ok for me to be proud of my culture. I feel comforted reading about someone who faced similar conflicts as me as a Filipino-American. #apread19
Patron Saints of Nothing was an eye-opening read that raised my awareness on the current issues occurring in the Philippines. It was a great chance to understand more about my family's home country and it has helped me in my journey in finding my identity as a Filipino. #apread19
@nataliaa_carina The main character is constantly told that he does not have a right to talk about the problems in the Philippines because he was raised in America, and at times I feel the same disconnect with my heritage because I've never lived there and I can't speak the language. #apread19
"It strikes me that I cannot claim this country's serene coves and sun-soaked beaches without also claiming its poverty, its problems, its history" (227). This quote is very relatable for me, especially after traveling to the Philippines this summer. #apread19
Now as more and more of Jun's mysterious life is revealed, I'm wondering if he really was a good person or not. I like how the author lets the reader see Jun in Jay's perspective and gradually find out that Jun isn't the same cousin that Jay used to look up to. #apread19
It is frustrating that Jay's cousin Jun is dead but his family is trying to live on like nothing happened. In the Philippines when Jay enters Jun's old room, he expects it to still have his stuff in it, but it has become a guest room and all of Jun's stuff is gone. #apread19
@nataliaa_carina If the author believes that race is a concept that divides, what are your personal beliefs on it? How does your beliefs on race affect your reactions to what the author is saying? #apread19
@lucy_disalvo21 Right now the story is fast enough to keep the story moving forward but it is not so fast that I'm confused of what's going on. The exposition was not too long, but it still gave a good idea of the characters and plot. #apread19
Here are just a few confirmed cases of why #NetNeutrality exists today. Please use your voice to let people know why it's important we keep it around and not let @AjitPaiFCC repeat it! The ISP's are launching misinformation campaigns, know to spot them and call them out! #Share
