@BrookeSlous This is a good point, everything is so expensive in the times we’re in, making it less accessible, whereas one can pay roughly $10 a month and get unlimited pre-recorded music!
@gosse_nicholas I agree with you, pre-recorded is a lot more accessible today! And with the amount of auto-tune and altercations, it generally sounds better then a live performance.
I agree with Ward’s, in today’s society generally music sounds better in the record vs live due to all the auto-tune, rappers for instance do not sound as good live due to auto-tune. This isn’t the case for all, but for most, in the end it comes to personal preference. #W23POPMUS
@PriyanshGajjar0 This is an interesting point, basing criticism on a perception of artists lacking creativity/ unoriginality, is a good reason as to why it may be considered "schlock." Lastly, I agree dismissing the music would be a mistake there are certainly listeners to this. #W23POPMUS
@erin_mcgettigan Erin, I agree with you, there is a lack of authenticity when it comes to schlock music. The mixing and changing of songs do cause disregarded cultural aspects. #W23POPMUS
I think that due to the mixing of pop and original rock songs is why it's considered schlock. Mixing songs can also leave the impression of cultural theft. Teen audiences tend to enjoy this kind of music, where mixing is done, hence it can be valued for that reason. #W23POPMUS
@LaheyRenee Renee, this is a very well written response, I agree with you, and think Ray Charles did well at really creating a new style of story telling while express his true emotions. #W23POPMUS
Ray Charles put a lot of emotions, and express himself through his singing. Therefore, I think Ray Charles sings with a "breaking voice" to help personify his emotions and feelings while he's singing. He comes off as himself and unique as well using his true voice. #W23POPMUS
Listening technology such as Spotify has influenced personality identities such as being involved with groups of similar interest, based on what you listen to. It’s changed the way we listen as it’s very accessible now compared to the past. #S22POPMUS
@Michell42577033 This is a good point! Different fans interact different ways it all depends on the artist, genre, and many things as you mentioned. And creditable is often gone unnoticed certainly.
@BrookeSlous@bradleyhodder_ I agree with what your saying, especially about the sampling, there’s lot of artist essentially stealing songs/beats for their own benefits without the credits given.
Popular music has created“false needs”such as having to look a certain way or do certain things. I agree it appeals to a passive audience and propagates a dumb down version and you can sometimes hear a beat and thinks it’s one song but then a completely different song. #S22POPMUS
