Sports Parents, this is for you.
How you talk to your child matters.
Here are 10 Phrases that All Athletes Need to Hear...
1: “I LOVE WATCHING YOU PLAY"
This is a powerful statement to a child. There is no judgment or criticism. Ultimately, this is all you really need to say.
2: “I BELIEVE IN YOU”
Do you want to build confidence in your child? Tell them you believe in them. They need to hear this from adults.
3: "DO YOUR BEST"
We are all different. We all have different skill sets. All we can ever do is our best.
4: "BE GREAT AT WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT"
This encourages athletes to focus on their strengths. It helps kids define their role on the team.
5: "LOVE YOUR TEAMMATES"
The joy of team sports comes from the commitment to your teammates. Athletes need to care about their teammates.
6: "NEXT PLAY"
This is a move-on mindset. Don't dwell on a mistake and make another. Don’t celebrate after a great play so much that you lose your focus. This teaches athletes composure and poise.
7: "MAKE MEMORIES"
Live in the moment. A season goes fast. Your high school career goes fast. Appreciate the moments and cherish the memories.
8: “PASS THE MIRROR TEST"
Can you look in the mirror each night? And tell yourself that you did your best, left it on the field or court, were a good teammate, etc.
9: "LEAD BY EXAMPLE"
This is the first step to leadership. Be on time, and have a high character. Bring positive energy. Be one of the hardest workers. Be committed.
10: “LEAD OUT LOUD"
Lead by Example, then Lead Out Loud. Be a Vocal Leader. Be an Encourager. Be willing to hold teammates accountable.

You won’t see swim coaches posting about the grind because of the backlash from the self care community.
The thing is, lots of us love the grind.
Long days
Distant rewards
Hard situations
But here’s my take
I grind the same way I did when I was 20.
But instead of
90% swim coach
10% life
It’s more like
30% coach
30% dad
30% husband
10% life
And each of those is a grind themselves. A good grind.
@Braden_Keith Always found it so odd that if you want to be at the elite level you had to join xyz group. Always thought it made more sense to go back to those coaches that fostered the athletic success to start with.

If u wanna chase something this week let's chase Consistency because Consistency breeds habit & once a habit is formed it's easier to stick to it. Consistency sets guidlines & expectations u have for yourself. Consistency is Momentum that's gained daily. #CoachPrime
PLAYERS: It's hard to hold your teammates accountable if you are not holding yourself accountable. Do what's right. Set the standard. Be the standard. Don't just tell teammates what to do, but show them how it's done!
Growth is not a linear process. It’s a cyclical one.
Growth involves periods of challenge, struggle, & setback followed by periods of recovery, reflection, & breakthrough.
It’s not about avoiding difficulties, but overcoming them. Growth is not a destination, but a direction.
Imagine a scenario where the top two Democratic candidates for Akron mayor were forced to campaign for the November general election. https://t.co/8c4RtMtGxh
Comparison will steal your joy.
Instead of focusing on how good another team is.
Look at yours and ask 3 questions.
1. What are we doing well and go do more of.
2. What could be better and figure out how to improve.
3. What is wasting our time and drop that.
500 free swim-off at D3s!!!
Katherine Hallmark of Swarthmore beat out Anna Pfeufer of Denison for a spot in the B-Final.
Brutal swim-off, but it's the choice you've gotta make. No coin tosses there. Take that 2nd swim and the chance to own your destiny.
