Chalk64 - Lifeflood

workin' on a mystery dungeon spiritual successor of sorts

No Mystery Dungeon game? Make your own!
Presenting Lifeflood, a mystery dungeon inspired game. This is a very early look and development takes a lot of effort (especially since each creature is well over 100 frames of animation).
@ExplGuild Happy #MysteryDungeon Day!

@TheDuskbloods ZORK!!? ZORK I NEED YOU ZORK!!!

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

Actually now that I really think about it
It's totally gatekeeping isn't it

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

Idk why I see this so often considering it's current year, but SH2R hate is genuinely baffling to me. Except, you know, usually they haven't even played it. Like it's some sort of moral grandstand to not engage with it...

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

Currently I plan on giving access to more than 4 moves, increasing cost of powerful moves, and restraining movepool based on category (damage/utility). But who's to say, this will most likely change once I get to balancing

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

This is going to be the crux of making turn based combat interesting. Exploiting a weakness is great but inherently boosts a set of options past others. Once you figure out an enemy you always have the answer for it, all the time.

[Jonini konini @joniniplo]

Real sick of turn based rpgs where hitting weaknesses if a core part of the combat loop and not just extra damage atp

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

A goal of mine is to allow for more flexibility in decision making. Frankly after a certain point in PMD games, you get a move that works 80% of the time and that's what you use a majority of the time, only using others to save resources

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

PMD assuages this by giving you a catch all basic attack (most of the time) and access to only 4 moves, outside of passives and items. All options aside from basic attacks cost resources so even if you do have a reliable move, it will eventually deplete

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

@berdlydt He's got Ken Sugimori pokemon eyes

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

Starwalker has... friends

[emerld👁️‍🗨️🔥 @edensMannequin]

whats the consensus on this thing? is it meant to be cat or is it just a weirdly shaped tower

like i can definitely see it being a cat, but that could just be pareidolia

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

@NebsGoodTakes fuck yeah

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

@goywars300 @NebsGoodTakes Doesn't help it travels through the vents and gets the jump on you

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]

@AtomAngelEve Dead Cells hardly has an identity itself considering how much of it is steeped in crossovers
Played it for the first time several years since it was released and it was just an amalgamation of indies

[Chalk64 - Lifeflood @Cyber_shot96]
