Most people assume that if their Wi-Fi uses WPA2 with a strong password, they're safe. But little do they know that attackers don’t always need to crack the password to get what they want. One powerful method hackers use is the Evil Twin attack where they clone a legitimate Wi-Fi network, trick devices into connecting to it, and then intercept or manipulate the traffic. This tactic works very well in public places or offices where trusted devices automatically connect to known SSIDs. Once a device connects, the attacker can launch DNS spoofing, phishing portals, or even SSL stripping attacks to steal credentials all without ever needing the real password.

In the image below, I am using airmon-ng to enable monitor mode, scan for nearby networks, identify our target SSID ("OfficeNet"), and clone it with a tool like airbase-ng. Meanwhile, we launch dnsmasq to serve fake DHCP leases and redirect victims to a phishing page. The moment someone tries to access anything, they’re shown a fake login page instead (captive portal), capturing credentials in plain text.
