A baby macaque named Punch got abandoned at a Japanese zoo. Zookeepers gave him an IKEA stuffed orangutan to cope with. He carried it everywhere β videos went viral, the toy sold out worldwide, resellers flipped it for 10x retail.
That IKEA plush? Latin American communities had already been calling it "Lupe" for years. No official naming, just the internet doing what it does. It spread so far that IKEA Mexico eventually embraced it themselves.
Two separate stories that turned out to be the same story one built on community love, one built on survival. When the $LUPE and $PUNCH communities found each other, nobody forced it. It just fit.
The lore was real before the tokens existed. That's the whole point.
