I have learnt that not every client is worth taking on.
A client who avoids every conversation about fees, cannot clearly explain why they left their previous lawyer, and wants you to jump into a case without proper handover is often waving a red flag.
Taking over an existing matter is not cheaper or easier. It comes with more work, more responsibility, and more risk.
Sometimes the most profitable decision a lawyer can make is to politely decline the brief.
