Talking about Color Coins - Don't Let the Grand Narratives of the Year Slip Away Right Before Your Eyes
I entered the scene during the last bull market and have witnessed the birth, maturity, and explosion of various concepts.
In searching for investment targets, one must find those that can survive among old concepts and those that can stand out among new concepts.
Everyone is waiting for the third wave of inscriptions, and so am I. However, when the third wave actually arrives, not all inscriptions will revive together; only those that have been selectively filtered for quality will be able to ride the wind upward. This filtering could be based on narratives, community, application, or even the strength of the market makers.
Inscriptions are a very new narrative, but in the fast-paced world of web3, a year is considered old, so we look for those that can "survive."
Another interesting concept is the "Bitcoin Ecosystem." This term is so compelling that I have always firmly believed it will become the main theme of the bull market accompanying this halving cycle.
The Bitcoin Ecosystem comprises many sectors, but I believe the most important criterion for a sector to be part of the "Bitcoin Ecosystem" is whether it can attract more people to play with Bitcoin, use it, and make Bitcoin more lively.
Although this concept was born at the same time as inscriptions, it fits the original intent of today's Web3 so well that I am convinced it will be a sector that won't die even after this bull market ends. So, I don't treat it as an old concept; it should always be seen as "forever fresh and new."
For new concepts, finding ones that can lead by example simply means identifying targets that can play a leading role in new concepts. How to lead? Ordi is undoubtedly a leader; there's no need to justify it, as time will provide the answer.
What other ones can lead by example?
These would be other "leaders" that survive the market's test, like the Layer 2 (L2) concept. After a market washout, will Merlin maintain its popularity? How many other L2 projects can successfully keep up the habit of using L2?
Or consider the various protocols, beyond Ordinals, there are Atomicals, Runes, Stamp... But remember, most protocols will fail; only a few will survive. Those that do survive will undoubtedly be highly impressive, introducing entirely new gameplay, and bestowing the Bitcoin ecosystem with new paradigms, habits, and impressions.
Thus, in my view, I have identified an incredibly exciting new concept that I eagerly anticipate—Colored Coins.
By "coloring" a single satoshi of Bitcoin, it serves not only as Bitcoin but also assumes the role of another currency.
This narrative is utterly fascinating.
The "Colored Coin" concept comes from the Atomicals protocol under the token standard "ARC-20." Many people like to regard ARC-20 tokens as a type of inscription, which is fine, but I prefer to see it as a new track—Colored Coins.
In the Colored Coin race, there are no competitors from other protocol layers, only ARC-20 itself, from ATOM to QUARK, and along the way, sophon, electron, neutron, infinity, and so on.
Colored Coins utilize all Bitcoin, giving every single bitcoin, every satoshi, its own space for self-expression.
One coin, one satoshi. How sexy.
It's no longer about superficial gimmicks or minor tricks. It's simplicity at its best!
When I first learned about ARC-20, I was not only eager to devote myself fully to the development of QUARK, but I also wanted to share this story with everyone—the greatness of the Bitcoin ecosystem, the greatness of Atomicals, the greatness of Colored Coins.
This truly changes the gameplay within the Bitcoin ecosystem, akin to the emergence of NFTs as a new form of digital asset.
In the previous text, I mentioned looking for survivors in the race of inscriptions, and now I can confidently tell everyone that "Atomic Inscriptions" will definitely be one of those surviving "inscriptions." Because while it can be classified as an inscription, its significance has long surpassed that of traditional inscriptions, and that's where the narrative's appeal lies.
Previously, I mentioned finding leaders within the Bitcoin ecosystem, those that establish new paradigms, habits, and impressions. Colored Coins are exactly that kind of game changer.
When looking for investment targets, you look for survivors among old concepts and leaders among new ones. Guess what? Atomicals is that survivor and leader.
A decade ago, people wanted digital art based on blockchain, and ten years later, NFTs pioneered a new history for digital artworks.
Ten years ago, the concept of colored coins was also proposed, and a decade later, ARC-20 is making colored coins a reality. If possible, colored coins will lead everything back to Satoshi, back to Bitcoin.
The Atomicals protocol features several explosive technological characteristics:
- AVM aims to dethrone Ethereum, targeting a trillion-dollar market space.
- PoW aims to unify the mining craze across all chains, targeting a trillion-dollar market space.
- RNS aims to revolutionize DNS, targeting a trillion-dollar market space.
...
But my favorite concept is still colored coins, which is the closest to our lives and our ideals. It's the tangible "Bitcoin jewelry" and stays true to Satoshi Nakamoto's original vision for Bitcoin.
Not everyone can own 1 BTC, but everyone can certainly have some satoshis.
But owning just some satoshis sounds boring—Colored Coins showcase the charm of Bitcoin in full glory.
Every satoshi is unique. You define your satoshi.
His satoshi is a crocodile, hers is named +name;
His satoshi is $atom, mine is $quark;
NFTs, FTs, Realms, a trinity that turns Bitcoin into everything, allowing everything to be expressed through Bitcoin.
You can say Atomicals is useless, but you can't say my Bitcoin is useless. I love my Bitcoin, I dress it up carefully, making it unique, giving it its own personality and style.
Today, no one can say Bitcoin is not good, at least not in the Web3 domain.
Colored Coins are not just a fancy package to draw attention using Bitcoin; they truly empower Bitcoin—Bitcoin needs ARC-20.
This makes the innovation of the Atomicals protocol fundamentally different from any other protocol in the current Bitcoin ecosystem. The Atomicals protocol is changing the rules of the Bitcoin world, gradually unveiling the future of Web3. It's not about making something "seem innovative"; it directly opens up a new grand avenue for Bitcoin.
In the early days of the protocol, I worried that even the best narratives require the right timing, location, and people. If Atomicals couldn't stand its ground during critical periods, it might be buried by history.
But how coincidental that in this explosive year for the Bitcoin ecosystem, Atomicals has gained mainstream recognition, countless high-quality developer teams have chosen to settle in the ecosystem, and institutions like Unisat and OKX have joined in development. At this moment, Atomicals is (or is about to become) too big to fail.
Since the Atomicals protocol has caught the tailwind, "Colored Coins" finally have the confidence to stand alone as a track!
Go ahead and benchmark,
against the trillion-dollar market of gold jewelry,
against the trillion-dollar market of digital art,
against the trillion-dollar market of ERC20 tokens,
...
Your imagination sets the limit.
And today, the entire market cap of all tokens, NFTs, and domain assets within the colored coin track and the entire Atomicals protocol is still less than three hundred million.
Questions:
Have colored coins become mainstream? Can they become mainstream?
Have inscriptions become mainstream? Can they become mainstream?
Has the Bitcoin ecosystem become mainstream? Can it become mainstream?
The answer to each question is also the answer to whether Atomicals' valuation can add a zero. Of course, similar questions can extend to a fourth, fifth, sixth, and beyond.
You may call me naive, but I don't care if every person who reads this article joins the wave; at least I've shared what I wanted to. Every word comes from the heart, and I was happy writing this because I am utterly convinced by Atomicals.
I truly hope that one day colored coins will become known worldwide, proving that our vision was correct.
Atomicals, the brightest star in the Bitcoin ecosystem in 2024.

Sometimes being super early can be a curse. You see the potential but nothing happens for a while because everyone finds out too late. During this time, you’re tempted by price opportunities elsewhere. @asterixlabs $astx is not a project to flip & come back. It will run.
ASTX is on a mission to mars rn. When was the last time you saw a post reveal pump in the space? Dope art + dope tech.
Don't fade the movement, I hear big things are coming.
