Honestly was just planning on doing both at the same time, not sure if I have enough data yet to optimize to that level yet since with the lower traffic it takes longer to get similar data to what I was able to this first month of ads. But in reality I should separate so I can attribute any improvement to the exact change
I launched my app about two months ago, about a month ago I started trying meta ads (static images) and learned a lot. Right now I am working on updates to my onboarding and trial process to hopefully convert more users. Have a long ways to go and it was a bit discouraging. But definitely learned a ton for the first go round.
Definitely, for one my best creative was honestly not great (opus 5.5 generated static image) and I still got a ton of trial starts off this. Second, based on the data I was getting I realized I might need to make the first experience more intuitive or add a tutorial since some users who cancelled were not using it correctly. Third I didn’t really have any notification pushes reminding people to try the app if they never picked it up again after the first day. Basically the retention % was much higher when they actually completed that first event, but I didn’t have much to help get users there which is what I’m working towards now
Thanks for the advice, this was kind of exactly what I was seeing. The cancel rate for people who never even reached the first useful moment (completing a workout) was over 30% higher than people who did!!! So my new strategy is how can I get as many people to that point before I show them the paywall. Also want to add a guided experience type of tutorial so they are less likely to get confused and drop off
@heylengu Agreed, good luck! I am really trying to focus my mental on the fact that I am getting learnings from this and that the signals are there. It was really cool to get my first customer that wasn’t family or friend. We just have to keep working at it!
@steffdoesthings That’s great to know, I noticed the % of users cancelling dropped off a cliff once they actually completed a workout. I am adding a guided experience type tutorial flow and also going to try not showing the paywall until this happens to try and get more users to that point
@Razmatazz By the end I was running 30$ a day, ended up spending a total around 650$. I started with less because this was my first time ever running meta ads
@carlmonkft Love this breakdown! I realized I really struggle to take a step back and appreciate how far I’ve come. Along the way there are many milestones worth celebrating, just need to remember to actually celebrate them 😉
@plahteenlahti Love this event that yall put on, it was a huge motivation for me to release my first ever app! That alone is a huge win for me!
