I'm standing against book bans on October 19 with @NYPL's #FreedomToRead Day of Action! Add your name to the pledge and instantly send an email to your elected representatives to tell them how important this issue is to you. https://t.co/FIyM69M9MA
What kind of childhood makes a top scientist? Is it enough to have all the right traits (brilliance, grit, etc) or do you need the right family too?
And why should we care? A 🧵 on our paper on the Nobel Laureates.
A teaser: the income distribution of the laureates' fathers.1/N
Our national survey of out-pt pulmonologists showed providers acknowledged the utility of POCUS in clinic especially in pleural effusion evaluation with impact on clinical decisions , though time was a major barrier reported !
Thank you @msmwpccm for the opportunity #CHEST2024
Thank you to attendees of my rapid fire oral presentation on a case of inhaled amikacin related acute interstitial pneumonia. Thank you to moderators Dr. Tessy Paul and Dr. Rania Abdallah! And thank you Dr. Edward Eden of @msmwpccm as my faculty advisor. #CHEST2024#CHESTSoMe
Great graphic in Dr. Laura Paulin’s talk at #CHEST2024 reminding us how gas stoves affect indoor air quality! (Read: Maybe another excuse to order in? 😜) #CHESTSoMe
This reminds me that schools placed by highways — often placed through marginalized communities. In other words, children of already disadvantaged communities become even more subject to poor air quality and thus have worse health outcomes, yet another vicious cycle.
Love to hear from pediatric pulmonology colleagues like Dr. Amy Brown at #CHEST2024 to further emphasize the importance of advocacy to improve air quality and of collaboration between adult and pediatric #pulmonology. #CHESTSoMe
Part of the discussion at the session spoke about proposed bills to prevent new schools from being built near highways. Clearly this is great! We prevent poor quality from the start in envts that children are most often.
Ducked out of rapid fire oral presentations to join Dr. Anne Coates in her talk about global warming and its impact on respiratory disease! Indeed we must not think we can do nothing.

Surprised by how much evidence there is for gamification in MedEd:
Competition: A high score board vastly increased use of a Davinci simulator. (JAMA surgery 2014)
Improved recall: gamified learning was associated with increased retention of knowledge. (JMIR 2019)

I also wanted to highlight the incredible presentation at #CHEST2024 from Deputy Bodie Shaw, Regional Director in the Northwest for @BureauIndAffrs — so honored to have his wisdom and experience in wildfires and how much they impact our population health. #CHESTSoMe
Loved Dr. Cortes-Puente’s (@DrivingPressure) presentation on care for transgender individuals from clinic to ICU at #CHEST2024! Specifically highlighting the dire need for more research for transgender persons. Inspiring and informative. #CHESTSoMe
Takeaway points for me:
🌈 PFTs should be based on sex assigned at birth
🌈 Transgender individuals have increased risk for asthma and COPD — obviously more associative research needs to happen
🌈 Have a frank open discussion about gender-confirming garments like chest binders
Loving this interactive and case based review of pulmonary diseases among #transgender patients with @GrantTurnerMD at #CHEST2024 🫁 🏳️⚧️Appreciate so much that a national conference created the space for these conversations. #CHESTSoMe
Super excited to join #CHEST2024 today — in fact my first time at this conference! Catching the sessions at the tail-end of the program but making the most of it! Today I’m attending sessions on #wildfires as well as #transgender patients from clinic to ICU. #CHESTSoMe
