Delighted to receive H.E. Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, former D-8 Secretary-General and Chairman of Al-Hidayah Group, along with his delegation at the D-8 Secretariat in Istanbul.

Together, we reviewed progress under the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in July 2023, particularly the proposed economic model and integrated digital platform aimed at facilitating cross-border trade and investment, enhancing SME market access, promoting financial inclusion and mobilizing resources for productive economic activities.

The delegation highlighted the model’s potential to stimulate economic activity, contribute to higher GDP growth, and support sustainable development across D-8 Member States.

International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction | 13 October 2026

On the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the D-8 joins the international community in reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives, livelihoods and development gains from the devastating impacts of disasters and climate-related risks.

Across the nine D-8 Member States, diverse yet interconnected disaster risks underscore the urgent need to strengthen preparedness, reduce vulnerabilities and build resilience.

This year's theme, “Resilience Starts at Home,” reminds us that safer homes, resilient communities and stronger institutions are the foundations of effective disaster risk reduction.

In line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030, the D-8 emphasizes the importance of investing in inclusive early warning systems, resilient infrastructure, risk-informed development, climate adaptation and international cooperation.

Building on the outcomes of the First D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Environment, held in July 2026, including efforts towards a D-8 Adaptation Action Framework (2026–2030), and looking ahead to COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, the D-8 Organization seeks to strengthen collective action through knowledge-sharing, capacity-building and sustainable solutions.
The proposed D-8 Energy and Climate Center in Azerbaijan offers further potential to advance these shared priorities.

At the TEKNOFEST in Şanlıurfa, Türkiye, I had the privilege to attend Honourable President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s inspiring address; interact with key policy-makers and technology leaders; visit pavilions of major tech companies; and engage with young innovators. The focus of our efforts was to strengthen the prospects of a formidable D-8 technology partnership — keeping in view technological transformations taking place globally and across the D-8 geography.

Held from 30 September-4 October, this was yet another highly impactful edition of TEKNOFEST — with powerful showcasing of Türkiye’s growing technological prowess across a broad spectrum and participation of more than a million people from different walks of life. 🇳🇬 Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!

The D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation extends its warmest congratulations to the leadership, Government, and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 66th anniversary of Independence.

The 1st of October 1960 marks successful culmination of the valiant struggle of the people of Nigeria for independence and self-governance. This auspicious day always serves as a fitting juncture to celebrate Nigeria’s remarkable journey since Independence and to reflect on its increasingly important role in world affairs. With its demographic strength, economic prowess, cultural diversity, and long-standing commitment to regional and international cooperation, Nigeria continues to make valuable contributions to peace and development in Africa and in the wider international context.

As a founding member of the D-8, Nigeria has played a pivotal part in advancing the Organisation’s founding vision and objectives — helping to foster closer economic cooperation and integration, and promoting shared prosperity among the Member States. The D-8 SME Center and the D-8 Health and Social Protection Programme (D-8 HSP), based in Abuja, are visible manifestations of this important role, which surely will continue to grow in the years to come.

On this happy and joyous occasion, we wish the fraternal people of Nigeria continued peace, progress and prosperity, and every success in their efforts to build an even stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

Absorbing session with Mr. Ömer Karaca, General Manager of Albayrak Media Group, together with the Group’s senior executives, on ways to deepen mutual collaboration. In our exchanges, I highlighted D-8’s founding vision, overall mission, core priorities, present trajectory, and future outlook. We agreed on a range of media initiatives aimed at raising international awareness and visibility of #D8’s contributions to regional economic cooperation and integration — noting that the Organisation’s 30th anniversary in 2027 and the next (12th) D-8 Summit in Indonesia offered valuable opportunities in this regard.

Grateful to our gracious hosts for a detailed tour of the Albayrak Group’s impressive digital and print media facilities and formal media interaction on the D-8 agenda.

Deeply honoured to receive Honourary Doctorate from the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICCA RAS) — in recognition of efforts for the promotion of international cooperation and Pakistan-Russia (🇵🇰🇷🇺) relations. The conferment was part of the special high-level event in Moscow, marking the 60th anniversary celebrations of ICCA RAS. In my remarks on the occasion, I thanked the Institute for this honour and dedicated it to all those working for the promotion of peace, mutual understanding, solidarity, and international cooperation.

During the visit to Moscow, I also took the opportunity to have bilateral interactions with the Russian Federation’s academic, think-tank, media and policy circles - including meetings with Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko; Special Presidential Envoy Ambassador Zamir Kabulov; and Director ICCA RAS Dr. Kirill Babaev.

These interactions were utilised to apprise them of the D-8’s history; organisational evolution since D-8’s inception in 1997; D-8’s core priorities; progress on sectoral cooperation within the D-8 framework; and growing partnerships with regional and international organisations. We agreed on deepening our mutual exchanges and exploring ways to advance shared objectives of enhanced regional trade and economic cooperation.

As we mark the #InternationalDayofPeace today, the urgent need for collective action to build, maintain, and sustain peace across our turbulent world cannot be stressed enough. Armed conflicts, long-standing unresolved disputes, and myriad of traditional and non-traditional security threats continue to claim precious human lives, impose staggering economic costs, and impede efforts for sustainable development. This Day serves as a fitting occasion to renew the commitment to fostering understanding and reconciliation and resolving differences and disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. Indeed, there is no higher and more noble mission than to ‘Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.’

Deeply gratified with productive bilateral interactions on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Regional Cooperation Roundtable of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) and the 2026 Haikou Conference of the Global Health Forum, in Hainan, China.

We agreed on strengthening mutual collaboration — including promoting trade and investment linkages, business-to-business interface, connectivity, innovation, sustainable development, and closer institutional engagement to connect the economic potential of nine D-8 countries with BFA’s extensive network across Asia.

In a fruitful meeting with H.E. Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain, Minister of Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh, we had a detailed exchange on harnessing the collective strengths and complementarities of D-8 Member States, particularly in pharmaceuticals and vaccines, biotechnology and medical technologies, digital health, research and capacity-building.
