The United States government has announced that it will cease its financial support for the United Nations Support Office in #Somalia (UNSOS) when its current mandate expires on December 31, 2026.
An official #US letter to the African Union Commission confirmed that Washington will no longer support the continuation of UNSOS. Furthermore, the U.S. explicitly stated it will reject any renewal of the AUSSOM peacekeeping mission if it includes support from UNSOS or the United Nations.
The mandate cited extensive financial backing provided by the United States since 2007, including nearly $2 billion invested in UNSOS. This funding was in addition to $1.6 billion for troop contributors, millions for local security forces, and billions in broader humanitarian assistance.
The United States cited the reason for this decision, stating that despite this massive support provided for over a decade, Somalia has not yet been able to fully assume security responsibilities, implement genuine security sector reforms, or sustain the gains made in the fight against terrorist groups.

Muddo ka badan soddon sano oo dib-u-dhis, nabadayn iyo dawlad-dhisid ah ka dib, waxa la joogaa xilli muhiim ah oo u baahan in la is weydiiyo suโaal aasaasi ah: Horta maxaynu doonaynaa? Geeddiga Jamhuuriyadda Somaliland halkuu ku socdaa?
Barnaamijkan waxaynu si qoto dheer ugu falanqayn doonaa jihada siyaasadeed, hoggaaminta dalka, amniga qaranka, dhaqaalaha, aqoonsiga caalamiga ah, doorka bulshada, iyo himilada ay tahay in aynu u dejinno mustaqbalka Somaliland.
Waa dood furan oo ku dhisan aragti, xog, iyo waayo-aragnimo, si aynu uga wada tashanno halka aynu maanta taagan nahay iyo halka aynu doonayno in aynu berri gaadhno.

Somaliland Cabinet Approves Joint Declaration with Israel
Somaliland's Cabinet has unanimously approved the joint declaration signed with Israel after President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) presented the full text of the agreement for review.
The declaration was signed in Jerusalem on June 15, 2026, by President Irro and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, marking another step in strengthening diplomatic ties between the two sides. The move follows Israel becoming the first UN member state to recognize Somaliland's independence late last year.
