@BJSM_BMJ Trial reflects practice as it should be done for most knee patients. Patients who are not happy with physical therapy outcomes can elect surgery. Note terms "standardized" and "individualized" describing physical therapy intervention.
@JoNijsBE@VUBrussel Contextual factors are not avoidable but controlled trials help account for contextual factors. Once evidence determines benefit beyond clinical interaction, comparison between competing clinical strategies are more relevant than continuous comparisons to placebo.
Today @DoD_DHA announced a demonstration to waive cost sharing for up to 3 physical therapy visits for TRICARE beneficiaries w/ LBP to incentivize access to high value care. It will run 1/1/2021-12/31/2023 & will operate in 10 states. https://t.co/DhrqZvHlZj #ChoosePT#PTAdvocacy
Great work from recent @USArmyBaylorDPT grads exploring conservative care use prior to elective spine surgery in @MilitaryHealth System - exercise or #physicaltherapy uncommon, but #opioids very common @ArchivesPMR https://t.co/l2p9mGL768
Only 1 MORE DAY to register for the free webinar tomorrow. Bring your questions for the open Q&A session & drill the panel of physiotherapists and surgeons discussion the results of a recent trial comparing PT to steroid injection for knee #osteoarthritis! Tomorrow 6PM EST!
A group of physical therapist researchers from the Army-Baylor University Doctoral Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy at @BAMC, a #MEDCoE Graduate School hospital-based program, published a study in the the @NEJM. https://t.co/6ZRZWH9dov @TRADOC @ArmyMedicine
A RT that compared PT with a glucocorticoid injection showed that at 1 year, scores on scales that assessed pain and functional ability and scores on timed performance tests were better among patients who underwent PT than among patients who received glucocorticoids.
There are probably easier ways to grow your @Twitter following, but if you have 6-8 years to spare, then plan & conduct a good study, plublish it in a top journal like @NEJM & then tweet about it! Biggest single-day jump I’ve had! Problem solved! #AcademicTwitter#sciencetwitter
FREE: Thanks BMJ Group! And more later too! Has reimbursement for knee osteoarthritis treatments now reached ‘postfact’ status? https://t.co/wlbmRMECD8 @DrJohnOrchard NEJM authors show that physical therapy defeats cortisone 6-0 in knee OA. Links to @D_Deyle, @DanRhon@NEJM
Twitter-based applause to Dr @danrhon, PT, DSc, DPT & his active Twitter account. https://t.co/YOGPdgjvAf
1st author Dr Gail Deyle. PT, DSc, DPT has account @d_deyle but he's too busy publishing in @NEJM to Tweet much ;) Kudos all around. Nail in cortisone coffin #JustWontDie
@usnews@d_deyle "One of major problems we have in public health care system, which is for many people, their insurance may not approve many physical therapy sessions," "access to a good certified physical therapist may be significantly limited." https://t.co/IUrvpWvs3l
@TenanATC@NEJM@d_deyle @BenHando Injections are not completely risk-free, and if the pain relief is the same with/without injection then why add that? This trial showed addition of injection before exercise therapy made no difference https://t.co/UCY3uJLdSL
Physical Therapy was superior to Corticosteroid injection for #KneeOsteoarthritis - outcomes to 1 year. https://t.co/PNplRdUbnN
Awesome work by @d_deyle@danrhon et al.
Big kudos Drs @d_deyle, @DanRhon & team (largely Texas). Joined the pantheon of physiotherapists dropping high quality research into big journals such as @bmj_latest, @TheLancet, @JAMA_current & @NEJM. One of the biggest changes in the last 10 years. #Impact#Impact 💥💥💥👏
