When you think about the fact that a woman (Fani Willis) whose ancestors were brought to this country as slaves, is courageously defending democracy and the rule of law, in the very country that was formed by men who earned their fortunes on the backs of the slaves they owned, it’s incredibly humbling.

It’s a testament to what this country means…even to those who were born on US soil by virtue of the generations before them having come here as a result of losing their freedom.

Some people have reason to have a better appreciation of freedom than others. The greater the appreciation of freedom, the harder people fight to defend and protect it.

The last couple of years we’ve seen the worst of this country. Now, we’re beginning to catch more frequent glimpses of the BEST of this country.

There is no “system” in place without the people required to run the system. You might even say, that the system….IS the people.

Democracy is holding, because of our system….and that means it’s holding, because of the PEOPLE.

It is very important to note this SCOTUS ruling does NOT remove Biden’s ability to pursue student loan forgiveness.

The Biden Admin can use the HEA (Higher Ed Act) - our position from the start - to continue loan forgiveness before payments resume. They should do so ASAP.

It’s a big question you as a UFT member need to know before voting on our proposed tentative contract and you deserve a real straight answer.

Healthcare is a mandatory subject of our collective bargaining. It is linked to all of our contracts.

We saw major GIVEBACKS in healthcare in our 2014 and 2018 contracts.

City unions dipped into the Healthcare Stabilization fund to fund retro raises in 2014 to the tune of 1 billion dollars.

In our 2018 deals, Mulgrew and the MLC promised 600 million dollars to the city in healthcare “cost savings” that now is forcing all city retirees into an inferior, privatized Medicare Advantage plan.

As city labor contracts are being negotiated, the city unions in the MLC are finalizing a healthcare plan for all active city workers that they refuse to share details about which will replace the premium-free option most workers have - Emblem/GHI.

They say it will be 10% CHEAPER.

Ask this question. Demand answers.

Insist on the Big 5 demands, also. Anything less means - WE MUST VOTE NO!

Yet not only has my book been moved, but now elementary schoolers must request a copy from a specialist at its new site AND then also PROVE their reading level before seeing a copy. All these hurdles for a young reader just to access a poem in history written for them. @MDCPS , history is not ours to hoard from children. History has always been theirs to make. And the more they're empowered to know our yesterdays, the more prepared they will be to lead us into tomorrow.
