🧑🌾Today at City Shamba, we had the pleasure of hosting students from Machakos University @mksu_official pursuing Agriculture Education & Extension course for a farm tour 🌱
📌As we walked through the farm🌾, shared ideas, and had meaningful conversations, one thing stood out, that agriculture is no longer just about farming. It’s about innovation, sustainability, and bold thinking.
💫The future of our agri-systems will be shaped by young people like these, future stewards💪, professionals, and leaders who must embrace a mindset shift💡 toward building resilient and sustainable food systems.
The seeds🫘 of transformation are planted not only in the soil, but in the minds of those who will lead tomorrow 🌿

🌱 GREAT NEWS FROM THE FARM🧑🌾
💫We’re proud to announce that City Shamba, together with @SoliDrip and @gadmarton, have installed the first-ever #SoliDrip irrigation kit in Kenya at our farm.
💡This #innovative technology is a game changer for #modern agriculture—especially for indoor farming and small kitchen gardens.
The SoliDrip system is designed to self-regulate #water supply, ensuring plants receive exactly what they need, when they need it.✅
By intelligently #detecting soil conditions, the system automatically adjusts watering, helping to: 🎯
✔️ Conserve water
✔️ Improve plant health
✔️ Simplify farm management
✨ This marks an exciting step forward in making smart, #sustainable farming solutions more accessible to households and urban farmers across the country.🇰🇪
🥳We’re excited about the possibilities this brings and look forward to scaling this technology to empower more growers.

Hunger isn’t just an empty plate.
It’s skipped meals.
It’s hidden malnutrition.
It’s mothers choosing who eats.
It’s systems that fail the most vulnerable.

Hunger = inequality + fragile food systems + climate shocks + policy gaps.

This week, We are hosting grade 4, 5 & 6 pupils from Nairobi Christian School at City Shamba as part of an educational tour aimed at enhancing their understanding of Agriculture, Nutrition and healthy living.
During their visits, they get an opportunity to engage in various farming activities including, nursery setup, transplanting, farm tools identification, feeding poultry and rabbits, fishing and other many integrated farming practices.
The sessions provide a hands-on learning experience, allowing the pupils to appreciate the importance of growing their own food, healthy eating habits and environmental conservation.
Such visits and activities play a key role in bridging classroom knowledge with practical skills, fostering curiosity and nurturing a generation that is better informed on nutrition and food systems.

City Shamba Team Visits Agape Innovations Ltd, Uganda
One week ago, the City Shamba team had the privilege of visiting Agape Innovations Ltd in Uganda for an insightful exchange visit. The experience provided us with an opportunity to explore a range of cutting-edge agroecological technologies.
During the tour, we had the chance to visit their BSF (Black Soldier Fly) farm, where they are producing Frass—an innovative organic fertilizer. We also toured the Gudie Leisure Farm, a remarkable agroecological initiative aimed at empowering vulnerable women and youth by strengthening their farming capacities.
In addition to these inspiring sites, we were excited to see the various innovations developed by Agape, including organic fertilizers, natural pesticides, and even a unique monkey repellant solution. These initiatives are paving the way for sustainable farming practices in the region.
We are eager to continue building on this collaboration, particularly in the areas of product development, knowledge exchange, and skill-sharing across the region.
Special thanks to @Agapeinnovation for the warm hospitality and excellent hosting in Kampala.
Last month we joined the DJs/MCs Competition by @ahfkenyaofficial for talent from Korogocho & Dandora 🎧🎤...Proud of our own DJ Miguel & @djmrdutch for emerging winners 🏆 — proof that creative spaces & mentorship matter.

Honoured! Humbled! and Thrilled to share that I’ve been awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship to pursue an MSc in Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security at the Royal Agricultural University @RoyalAgUni. Grateful to @city_shamba, @FCDOGovUK@UKinKenya for the opportunity
We visited Viwandani Comprehensive Community Organization (@vicco_ke) today and were truly inspired by their strong community footprint. 🌱 They run a feeding program for children in informal settlements and also support schools and households with organic kitchen gardens.
During our visit, we shared our new nutrition education materials written in sheng to complement their efforts in reaching the community. Going forward, we look forward to working together to strengthening their nutrition initiatives through additional nutrition resources. #PEISProject #Nutririon
Tupo site apa @KisumuCountyKE with @aphrc and @KisumuKiya, engaging leaders of community-organized groups and local champions on impactful storytelling for sustainable change.
Our goal is to strengthen their capacity to curate and package community stories and pressing issues in compelling ways that resonate with leaders and policymakers — ultimately influencing positive, lasting change.
This initiative is part of the AfriFOODlinks project, set against the backdrop of challenges like frequent flooding in Nyalenda area, which sometimes devastates the school farms we've established and displaces families. Addressing these issues requires a multi-stakeholder approach.
At the same time, we're empowering communities to highlight the positive — such as the school farms that support local feeding programs — ensuring that these success stories are seen, heard, and used to inspire broader action.
To commemorate World Breastfeeding Week, @city_shamba, in partnership with @aphrc, @Zero_Hunger_Ke, @RoddenberryFdn, and #MamaLucyKibakiHospital, hosted a powerful #HumanLibrary session with breastfeeding mothers.
The dialogue focused on key topics including the importance of #exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and the critical role of #maternalnutrition and diet in supporting both mother and child.
Following the session, the mothers participated in a #farmtour where they learned about #kitchengardening, the cultivation of nutritious and beneficial vegetables, and practical tips for starting their own household gardens. Many left with seedlings in hand, ready to begin their journey toward healthier homes and empowered feeding practices.
