Biden DOJ actively stopped the merger by filing an antitrust lawsuit. Without the DOJ suit, the agreed shareholder-approved deal would have closed. No lawsuit = no injunction.
Antitrust rulings like this are inherently subjective.
So yes Biden administration is responsible for and accountable for job losses.
🇺🇸 Spirit Airlines is gone. 17,000 jobs. 34 years. Shutdown effective immediately.
In 2024, Elizabeth Warren celebrated blocking its merger with JetBlue as a win for consumers. The logic: stop the merger, protect competition, keep fares low.
What actually happened: Spirit filed bankruptcy twice anyway, couldn't survive soaring fuel costs from the Iran war, and no buyer materialized. The Trump administration tried a bailout. That also failed.
Warren's "win" didn't kill Spirit alone. But she handed a terminally ill airline a shovel and called it a rescue.
@EricLDaugh
Wrong - airlines use hedging to protect against sudden oils spikes.
Grow up and take some accountability for your actions!!!!
Spirit seeking merger is the proof business model had issues when you chose to shut it down.
This is on you and democrats and you are responsible and accountable for all the job losses.
I've warned for months that a @JetBlue-@SpiritAirlines merger would have led to fewer flights and higher fares.
@JusticeATR and @USDOT were right to stand up for consumers and fight against runaway airline consolidation.
This is a Biden win for flyers! https://t.co/lJFGS3ucv3
