Former Chinese Official Who Pleaded Guilty Sentenced to D+ath for Accepting Over $325 Million Bribes
A court in eastern China has sentenced former Nanjing city official Yang Youlin, 69, to d+ath after convicting him of accepting more than 2.2 billion yuan ($325 million/£243 million) in bribes over a 30-year period.
Yang, who held various government positions in Nanjing between 1993 and 2023, was also found guilty of embezzlement, abuse of power, and money laundering. Authorities said his illegal earnings rank among the largest recorded in recent years.
According to Chinese state media, Yang used his official positions to help individuals obtain engineering contracts, land transfers, and financing in exchange for cash and other valuables.
His prosecution came as part of President Xi Jinping’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign, which has targeted senior officials across sectors including the military and banking.
The Changzhou Intermediate People’s Court ruled that Yang’s crimes were “extremely serious” and caused “exceptionally heavy losses to the interests of the state and the people.”
While Yang pleaded guilty, expressed remorse, and assisted investigators, the court said the seriousness of his crimes outweighed any mitigating factors, making him ineligible for a lighter sentence.
“You are so handsome. Why are you working as a waste collector?”
—Moment a woman expressed her surprise after meeting a young man who works as a waste collector, asking why someone as young and handsome as him would choose that profession.
In response, the young man said he would rather earn an honest living than become a thief, adding that he is proud of his job because it pays well and has enabled him to financially support his parents, including helping them build a house.

He has a point there. Figures from stat SA shows that nearly 170000 South African women were victims of domestic violence in their homes last year. 117 women were raped everyday( 5 every hour) by a close partner or male relative last year , and 60% of South African women will face domestic violence within their home during their life time.
I am just going to be blunt here fellow Africans, the most dangerous place for a woman in South Africa is not in the arms of a Nigerian or a Ghananian man, it is in the comfort of their own home, by a male relative or sexual partner.
