#MotherPromise is a comedy entertainer that blends light-hearted humour with a meaningful message. While the first half takes time to find its footing, the film improves after the break with the second half delivering better momentum and several genuinely funny moments.

The final 30 minutes are the film’s biggest strength, featuring chaotic comedy that works well without losing sight of the emotional core.

The film benefits from its ensemble of quirky characters, each drawing from different regions of Karnataka, which adds a distinct local flavour to the storytelling. The “Manu and Putti” spoof is among the more effective comic stretches. Dhananjaya delivers a sincere performance despite having limited dialogues.

Director Poorna Mysore makes a confident debut, balancing humour and emotion with reasonable control. Although the pacing is inconsistent in places, the film concludes on a satisfying note and leaves a positive impression.

Worth a watch with friends if you enjoy situational comedies.

After watching this week's new Kannada release, Mother Promise, I'm beginning to wonder if it's a tribute to one of my favourite directors, Guy Ritchie, and his feature debut, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a crime caper that transforms a simple gambling debt into an intricate web of robberies, mistaken identities and escalating chaos. Seemingly unrelated characters and events gradually converge in a narrative characterised by rapid editing, quick-wit dialogues and dark humour. 

...but does it land the right punch?
