Absurd that so many prominent media members have rushed to push this pathetic narrative.
Zigi injured after being under fire in 1H & this nonsense being pushed. Queiroz explained the game plan clearly - they sought to absorb early & then grow into the game.
No luck!
I hate technical rounds 😭
What do you mean I’m expected to write code completely on my own, from memory, under pressure, while someone watches me, without Google, without Stack Overflow, without docs, and somehow remember the exact syntax for everything?
In real life, no one codes like that. Half of software engineering is knowing what to search for, reading documentation, and figuring things out as you go. But in a technical round, apparently I’m supposed to become a human compiler and instantly recall every method, edge case, and framework API I’ve ever touched.
You’re testing my coding skills, my memory, my stress tolerance, and my ability to pretend I’ve never opened a browser, all at the same time 😭
If you have been complaining about one thing as a fan/observer/pundit for 10+ years and yet still the player who performs those actions is still being largely preferred by different coaches at club and NT level, doesn’t it make you want to pause and ask why?
Cos life happens.
And when it does, we don't want to be a nation known for turning its back on citizens when they get into shit.
IF he ever gets a guilty rap, we have every right to flip on him. For now, his country stands by him. That's what family is about.
@litsince@KwameA__B Excluding him from the squad on those grounds isn't neutrality anyway. Plus he plays for the Champions of Europe, why would they not exclude him till the case is closed
@TheDumbTechGuy I get this. But I'd rather be one more dev at Google than be one more founder in the space. Either way you'll need to be a part of a tiny fraction to make an extraordinary impact. But joining Google is a safer bet. Plus you can leave later and do more impactful stuff
@TheDumbTechGuy Well your tweet says otherwise. Plus I didn't even realise you meant Chrome literally. I thought "chrome" here was a metaphor for some transformative tech
"90% of Google devs do mundane stuff that won't change the world". Well 90% of startups also collapse by their 5th anniversary and don't change the world. There isn't one path to impact. He'll leave Google with years of experience and cash to do whatever he wants
I NEED TO GO TAKE A SHIT. so i'll make this quick;
A lot of people are finding my tweet about google to be out of order. I know. I figured, I would be a little kind to you all and explain. With a little logic, you will get it too.
1. Google has 60k software engineers. Same as the rest of the faang. For 90% of their devs, what do you think their Day in a Life Looks like? Working on cutting edge software? Fuck NO.
2. Google has multiple products in existence already. They are not taking risks. The only job at google is to maintain existing products and/or add features here and there once every 5 years (if you're lucky). They hire geniuses to maintain competitive edge, and not because the actual job requires a genius.
3. If you graduated from MIT, from Ghana, with all that access and benefits, the worst possible decision you can make is go work for google and join the already existing 60K engineers. You'll get lost in the chaff.
4. You will not be on the team that does the real work.
6. You will be spending your time doing redundant stuff, editing buttons, and documenting the hell out of them. Before you know, 10 years of your life has gone by. Well, with Lot of money. A little tiktok search will confirm this.
7. However, this is fine if you are optimising for Money. Nothing wrong with that. But if you are in your 20s, I think you are pretty retarded if you are optimising for money (cc: @chamath ) and not taking as much risk as you can.
8. Now, I also do understand the young man. Just the classic textbook example of "success". I get it. Nothing wrong with that. I personally just respect people like @pazunre more.
9. Ghana is a shit hole now. Most of our leaders have misplaced priorities. No wonder our brilliant minds in tech always bounce out. Only Fair.
10. But we can't give up. I might just fuck around and have to become PRESIDENT OF GHANA to get the country back on track and save us all. We need to make Ghana great to retain our talents.
Patrick Awuah was literally at Microsoft for close to 10 years. He's returned and founded Ashesi. I'm sure there are so many examples like that. It's jarring that someone will describe this as wasted potential
Icl, I don’t see how a Ghanaian ending up at Google is wasted potential.
Could he do better? Maybe (I’m not in the Tech space so I wouldn’t know). But a Ghanaian going to work for one of the largest tech companies in the world is, by definition, not wasted potential.
