@Acyn So want? To create America the colonies abandoned Articles of Confederation, their former religious requirements and accepted a common Constitution which says flatly “no religious test”. Her comment proves they KNOWINGLY agreed we are not a Christian nation.
@NancyMace Because I’m over some age I don’t benefit from police, fire department, local roads, trash pickup, snow removal, parks, or anything else local governments fund through property taxes? Or are you going to cut back on those? Or make younger owners pay more?
@cboyack The entire premise of capitalism is that you have right to another person’s labor if the general conditions compel them to accept your wages. You can pretend everyone can “freely” opt for a better wage only if you ignore reality.
@anymanfitness Most people work 250 days a year. So that’s about 75%. Every teacher we’ve known works well beyond those time parameters. But go ahead make stuff up.
@UziCryptoo Check your figures. “married couple with two kids earning $150,000 adjusted gross income will have federal income tax of $11,548/$12,500”. “single filer with a $150,000 income and no dependents - estimated federal income tax $24,810”.
@DanielDiMartino On $6.5b during 2006-18 he paid total $1.4 b fed taxes for effective 21% rate. A married couple w/ $100,000 taxable income pays 22% effective rate. Given that my parents paid a marginal rate over 60% in 1960s. A 40% top marginal rate cuts deficit w/out slowing GDP.
@JeffBezos Trump’s budget projects a $2 trillion deficit. Top earners with greatest wealth got $2.3 trillion tax cut under Trump’s OBBB. How about repeal that cut for the rich so the nurse can have child care tax credit, reduced health insurance premiums and affordable daycare?
@DerrickEvans4WV “Approximately 40% to 60% of people experiencing homelessness are employed, either full or part-time, according to data from the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness.”
@billybinion Forbes estimated Bezos paid $2.7 billion tax on gain from sale of $13.6 b of Amazon stock. Top LT cap gain when Amazon started =28%, now rate =23.8%. Ordinary worker top rate = 37%. Tax policy favors wealth over work, saving Bezos $1.8b while widening inequality.
@dantypo@JamOz1980 Actually in states with $10 or less minimum wage, “entry-level wages for positions like housekeepers and front desk agents to a range of $11 to $14 per hour.”
@UziCryptoo Monthly P&I on above=$1663 fixed for 30 yrs. Interest deductible = 25% subsidized. Add $500/mo ins & tax=~$2200/mo. Compare that to renting average 2BR = $1900 w/ rent increasing 3%/yr. Also mortgage pays down principal/equity grows. Then show us the comparison after 15 years.
@atrupar “approximately 50% of private-sector workers in the U.S. are actively contributing to a 401(k) plan”. So half of workers either don’t have extra or have no plan. But Scott and the GOP won’t make retirement saving easier, raise minimum wage, limit cost of childcare, etc.
