I want you to understand what is sprayed on your oats before they are harvested.

Glyphosate. The active ingredient in Roundup. Farmers spray it directly on the oat crop days before harvest. Not to kill weeds. To dry the crop so the combine harvester can get through the field faster. This is called pre-harvest desiccation.

The Environmental Working Group tested non-organic oat products and found glyphosate in every single conventional sample. In the UK, independent monitoring found it in 41 percent of grain samples. A French study found it in the urine of 99 percent of the population tested.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies glyphosate as probably carcinogenic to humans.

It is in your oatmeal. It is in your children's oatmeal.

I grew up believing oatmeal was the healthiest thing you could eat for breakfast. An American staple. Right up there with apple pie.

It is not healthy. It is not harmless. And the deeper you look, the worse it gets.

I want you to understand what is actually happening.

America does not have a health care system. It has a disease management system. The prescriptions are not failures. They are the product. Every refill is revenue. Every chronic condition is a recurring subscription.

Nobody is asking why 256 million antidepressant prescriptions are being filled. Nobody is asking what is driving the depression. Nobody is asking whether the food, the environment, and the metabolic damage are the root cause the system refuses to address.

The system is not broken. It is working exactly as designed.

I want you to understand the money.

The United States spends more on health care per person than any country in the world. More than $13,000 per person per year. More than double what most European countries spend. More than triple what South Korea spends.

South Korea. 83.7 years. Third in the world. A fraction of the cost.

Japan. 84.5 years. First in the world. Less than half the spending per person.

The money is not going toward longer life. The money is going toward managing symptoms for profit.

I want you to understand what that gap means in real numbers.

If you are an American, you are expected to live more than six years fewer than someone born in Japan. Five years fewer than someone born in Switzerland. Four years fewer than someone born in Australia.

These are not poor countries with limited access to medicine. These are wealthy nations that use far less of it.

Japan fills a fraction of the prescriptions per person that America does. Japan ranks first in the world. America ranks last among its peers.

More medicine did not make us live longer. It made us the most profitable patient population in human history.

The United States ranks last among 25 comparable nations in life expectancy. 78.4 years. 6.1 years behind Japan. Two full years below the OECD average.

You would think the country that prescribes the most medicine would be the healthiest. Living the longest. Leading the world.
