For millions who watched Libya transform from one of the most prosperous nations in Africa into a fractured territory, seeing the architects of that catastrophe celebrate their legacies feels like a profound evasion of accountability. While the international community and mainstream media rarely disrupt these curated public appearances to ask the hard questions about the destruction of Libya, the historical record remains clear. The contrast between a peaceful, idealistic presentation on stage and the enduring, violent fallout on the ground is a stark reminder of how global power avoids its own wreckage
Good evening. I hope you all have a peaceful day.
I would like to address the current situation in Northern Nigeria and the discourse surrounding Northern advocacy on X (formerly Twitter). It would be inaccurate to generalize and suggest that no advocacy is taking place; there are many individuals who are genuinely striving to bring these issues to light. We pray that Allah rewards their efforts abundantly.
Regarding the activism demonstrated by figures like VDM, Davido, and other influential voices from the South, the reality is that such a framework is currently difficult to replicate in the North. Unfortunately, our leadership has, in many instances, prioritized personal and familial interests at the expense of the collective well-being of the region. It is becoming increasingly difficult for prominent political, economic, or religious leaders to speak out on critical issues such as regional development, security, healthcare, and job creation. Those who do dare to speak often face swift repercussions; it is not uncommon for individuals to be detained by the DSS or simply disappear shortly after voicing their dissent.
Many active voices on this platform who have highlighted the challenges facing the North have faced prolonged detention, with some remaining in custody to this day. Ironically, some members of our own Northern community contribute to this environment by cheering for these arrests, often motivated by partisan political affiliations.
Consider the recent case of the female corps member who spoke out against her mistreatment; a prominent Southern figure advocated for her, accompanied her to the headquarters, and successfully resolved the matter. Conversely, in the North, speaking out against systemic issues often invites severe, far-reaching consequences that threaten not just the individual, but their wider family.
For those of us who lack significant political or social capital, our influence remains limited. Despite my efforts to highlight critical humanitarian crises in Sudan, Gaza, and Northern Nigeria via my pinned post, the engagement remains minimal. Contrastingly, frivolous content frequently goes viral, gaining tens of thousands of views within hours. This highlights a disheartening trend: a preference for trivialities over substantive discourse.
We face a monumental task, and a collective awakening is necessary before we can effectively address these deep-seated challenges. To those who continue to work tirelessly for the betterment of the North, you are recognized and appreciated.
We pray that Allah protects you, grants you a peaceful life, and rewards your dedication with the highest rank in Jannah. 🤲🏻
@BashirAhmaad@dadimau_ The painful truth is that many Northern politicians will issue condolences today, but some of them helped create the conditions that allowed insecurity to thrive for years.
“It is unfortunate that Maj. Gen. Rabe (Rtd), a Northerner, died in captivity in the North after being abducted by Northern bandits. This is a collective shame on the North that this crisis has been allowed to persist unchecked for two decades. Shame on us” – Yushau Shuaib.
