The Dad Shift

[The Dad Shift @dadshiftuk]

The UK has the worst paternity leave in Europe - just two weeks paid at half the minimum wage.

We're calling on Keir Starmer to back a new statutory paternity leave policy that properly supports families. Sign our open letter now: https://t.co/g8JNGrwVcB

Getting ready for the big match (still time for that call up!) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ⚽️

Happy to support Extra Time for Dads - and pleased the government is reviewing paternity leave policy💪

New dads should be able to spend more time with their newborns and partners without worrying about other pressures. Our laws are some of the most minimalist in Europe in this area. This would be an important change to show our appreciation for Dads out there!

Brilliant work by @alistrathern campaigning for change. @MovemberUK

@RichMartinMcr Great article Richard 👏 we're running a campaign for better paternity leave and would love to chat about football's role in that. Do DM us or email [email protected] if you're up for talking

Ten years on from the introduction of shared parental leave, the policy has completely failed working families.

Tune into BBC Radio 5 Live, where I’ll be chatting to @TVNaga01 in a few minutes about @dadshiftuk’s analysis of shared parental leave, which they say is “broken” and “failing working families”.

[Kristian Johnson @kristianj23]

.@dadshiftuk co-founder George Gabriel is campaigning for better statutory leave for dads - and says shared parental leave simply doesn't work.

[Kristian Johnson @kristianj23]

10 years ago, the government introduced shared parental leave. It was hoped this would allow dads to play a more prominent role in fatherhood.

But new analysis shows it's a scheme which is "completely broken" and "failing working families".

Our rubbish paternity leave is one of the biggest barriers to equality in parenting - but it's not the only one. Hear Jack's story, a 🧵

Can you help us find police offers or members of the armed forces to tell us their paternity leave story?

If you don't know anyone yourself, please like and share this post to help us get the word out. Thank you!

Gender inequality is bad for everyone, and parenting seems to me to be one of the most obvious places this manifests. Enjoyed talking to Alex from @dadshiftuk for our #IMD24 series.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL MEN’S DAY EVE! In our first #IMD2024 interview @inspireajen chats to Alex Lloyd-Hunter, co-founder of @dadshiftuk, about perceptions of gender roles, and why the UK’s terrible paternity leave allowance is hurting everyone. https://t.co/g4ickKgWaP

Your words are right on the money @mayaellisuk.

Better paternity leave isn't just good for dads and kids, but mums too.

It's time the UK catches up and makes paternity leave work for families.

In 2022 Finland reformed parental leave to give both parents 160 days of paid leave to use before their child turns two.

In the UK dads and co-parents get just two weeks paid at half the minimum wage.

Paternity policy should support dads and co-parents to be equal partners when it comes to raising children.

But rather than supporting, current policy is holding parents back; whether in parliament or elsewhere.
Thanks @joshsimonsmp for speaking out.

If this is you or someone you know, please DM us or drop us an email at [[email protected]] - it goes straight to Alex and will of course be entirely confidential and anonymous. We'd also love to speak to partners of officers/service people who took paternity leave.

[The Dad Shift @dadshiftuk]

We're aware there are some particular challenges for some police officers and service people around paternity leave, and we'd love to speak to more people with direct experience so we can find out more.
