I had one aim after moving to Hyderabad: find a community of good people to build with. I couldn’t find one, so I started one at the end of April.

The first problem was distribution. I couldn’t reach enough people. @aiweekendsxyz has partially solved that, though we are still working on it.

Then came the venue problem. That got solved through excessive begging on the internet. 😄

Once I had an office and people started showing up, I noticed another problem: quality. When you’re trying to fill a room, you tend to let anyone in. And a room anyone can enter is a room nobody values.

Priya Parker calls this “generous exclusion” in The Art of Gathering. To create a room people want to enter, you have to close the door to some people. The door is what makes the room.

So I changed the structure:

→ You must have shipped something before
→ Entry costs ₹100
→ I keep nothing. The full amount goes into a prize pot
→ Everyone votes for the best demo, and the winner takes it all

I don’t want to earn from builders right now.
That isn’t the point.

Nine events in, the last one finally felt right.
I genuinely enjoyed hosting it, talking to people, and learning from them.

For the first time, I felt surrounded by a room full of serious builders.
