Back when I was coming up we called them posers. It's not that everything they liked was lame. Some was indeed very cool. They were just into it for being seen liking it cool kids points
The reason a bunch of embarrassing lame bands get called “hipster” now is because “hipster” was an insult at the time, not an identity people were trying to affirmatively claim! Hipsters were absolutely calling the Lumineers “hipster shit” in the moment!
@fred_beretta All that stuff is definitely rock with a punk attitude. Early Kinks, Sonics, etc. Quite a few bands with decent arguements for first depending which punk attributes you value more. Not much point arguing any other band than Ramones define Punk Rock as it would become known tho.
Didn't sound anything definitely 'Punk Rock' till '74 earliest, and its still that Detroit hard rock sound that, yeah, it technically fits, but almost doesn't quite fit too
Stooges got the earliest not proto but fully 'Punk Rock' recording with verified dates here in July '72 ⬇️
See these guys? They started punk rock. It wasn't the racist Sex Pistols. It wasn't The Ramones. Definitely wasn't The Velvet Underground.
It was DEATH. Back in 1971.
Black people started music. From Blues to Rock n Roll to my favourite genre, Punk.
Yes you heard me right.
@SVG__Collection The way Tyner & Elvin work together with Trane leading is maybe my favorite thing in Jazz. Those dueling bass solos from Workman and Davis with one bowed and one plucked are so friggin cool too. Only piece I'm aware of where that's been done.
@roryisconfused Honestly dig into 60s Dylan harder if you haven't!
The Minnesota Tapes, Live albums (Gaslight/Folksingers Choice/Etc.), and Bootleg series recordings from before the first album have all his best stuff imo
@darkwingspook Not even that big a difference in score really. Honestly could be read as P//U being slightly better.. it has more than twice as many songs that had to be good and still stay engaging throughout. Harder to do on a double disc.
@suzyputrid Maybe a dumb distinction but Ramones feels more like punks making pop.. punk pop, and later bands were more popular culture making punk.. pop punk. idk.
@tyler02020202 5 bed 3 bath on 5 acres with two ponds. mile outside of town, less than 10 minutes from downtown in a division 1 college town with very active music scene. split 6 ways $170 a piece.
@s_trooth one of those weird albums where I love every song if it comes on on its own but theres no context where I want to listen to songs like that for an hour+ in a row
@Duderichy Yeeeeah weird grey area the IRS doesnt have super firm rules around. If the primary source of income is from influencer/lifestyle style posting, basically anything you buy and post a picture of has a legitimate claim as a business write off lol
@eigenrobot Oh yeah, worked with a guy who told me about it. Being into paws is super common. He was into tails and considered a little odd for it apparently 🤷
@GodsFossil That is funny. I'm the type of genre need that appreciates it and tracks it but Epic Collage is a new one for me. Feels like Slacker Rock was just a shade below mainstream if you followed 90s-00s indie alt. Quiet Storm does seem a weird omission tho lol
@redrummarts That 10 minute monologue Laurie Metcalf gives to open one of the episodes. Idk even know what to say about it really, but I don't think I've ever been gripped by every word a tv character has said like that before or since
@grace_roso The look is really the only reason to make note of them. The music is good, but not nearly exceptional enough in the realm of instrumental math rock to really stand out on its own.
@vaudevillehook Don't agree with the terrible songwriter bit, he almost always restructured his covers. But hell yeah! His streak of blues covers when he was goin solo is cream of the crop Dylan for me.
@natecooley Honestly love the Carlos Castaneda shout. If you were ever in a mystical/gullible/drug-addeled enough place in your life to believe it could be true, reading those books is an absolutely thrilling experience!
