We're hosting the first mayoral debate featuring all 3 leading candidates on September 14, and your question could be asked live at the debate.
@globalmedicdmgf@HCICanada We’re so appreciative of your support! Your work will provide about 35,000 meals to those facing food insecurity in Toronto.
It's one of the biggest misconceptions we hear at Daily Bread: All we give out is canned goods. 🥫
And while we do give out cans, last fiscal 73% of what we distributed was fresh or frozen — think produce, milk, eggs, meat — not shelf-stable. #DidYouKnow
We put the issues of affordability and poverty front and centre in last week's #BeachesEastYork debate, co-hosted with @calvaryonmain. Thank you to the nearly 200 attendees — see you at the polls on August 31!

The fight to #endhunger cannot be won alone.
We’re grateful to have each one of you beside us as we work toward a future where everyone can realize their right to food.

See you tonight!
@globalmedicdmgf@HCICanada Thank you, GlobalMedic, Human Concern International and all the volunteers who made this possible! 💛 We’re so grateful for your support in helping ensure nutritious food reaches neighbours across the GTA.
Grocery prices have outpaced overall inflation for 18 straight months, according to @StatCan_eng. 📈 When food prices rise, we're hit twice. More Torontonians need to turn to food banks to feed their families & it costs us more to purchase nutritious food. https://t.co/xJHSTNF5va
We're proud to announce that Charles Jergl, our VP of Programs & Services, has been named to the @FeedOntario board. Our sector must work together to achieve policy goals that will ultimately #endhunger. We can't wait to see what Charles will bring to the Feed Ontario table. 🤝
A warm welcome to the next new Board of Directors member we’re introducing, Charles Jergl!
Charles Jergl is the Vice President of Programs and Services at @DailyBreadTO. Charles became involved in food security issues in 2005, when as a food bank client, he participated in a Community Based Research Project on poverty organized by Daily Bread. In his current role oversees training, program support, and development of 214 food programs including meal programs and food banks. We’re looking forward to the expertise he will bring to our board!
NEXT WEEK: We're holding a debate for #Scarborough Southwest provincial candidates ahead of the 9/3 by-election.
Hear from candidates about their plans to address food insecurity, housing affordability, and the rising cost of living.

Last fiscal year our #volunteers gave an astounding 141,668 hours to the fight to end hunger.
That's more than 16 full years. 🤯
Volunteers — we cannot thank you enough. Your efforts make sure no one in our city goes hungry.

That’s why we're advocating for a new #CanadaRentersCredit that will provide immediate support to low-income renters and prevent homelessness as we make progress in building new housing.
No one should have to choose between a roof over their head and food on the table. (3/3)
Last week’s announcement that the federal government is funding the construction of 5,600 rental homes — over 1,800 of which are considered affordable, supportive or rent-controlled — is a step in the right direction. (1/3)

But new units will take years to build and deliver affordability at scale. Torontonians are struggling now:
👉 An alarming 88% of Toronto food bank clients live in unaffordable housing
👉 More than 1 in 5 spend all of their income on housing, leaving nothing for food. (2/3)
We distributed a mind-blowing 40,767,776 pounds of food to our network of over 200 programs during the last fiscal year.
That's the same weight as nearly 67 jumbo jets! ✈️
Here's what that looks like on an average Monday:
By-elections have been called — now it's time to get informed.

Food access in #StJamesTown just got stronger 💪
This summer we helped open a new food program at that @TNOtoronto location.
#DailyBreadTO CEO @NCHetherington, MPP @kristynwongtam and Councillor Chris Moise commemorated the opening at the ribbon-cutting ceremony last week.
