"Fast track", "Reduce Red Tape", "Remove Barriers" are deregulatory words which usually signify weakening of environmental processes & laws. The Programme for Government is full of these terms and we're worried for nature as a result. https://t.co/yNzITAECdz
~Correction~
Natural: adjective, meaning 'existing in or derived from nature; not made or caused byย humankind.'
Human consumption of cows' milk is not natural, as is often claimed.
Turns out, natural foods like dairy are good for you! Who knew!
A study of 900k Brits and Chinese people, published in Jan 2024, found:
1. Cheese consumption was associated with lower cardiovascular disease risk, with a 12% decreased risk among those consuming cheese at least 7 times/week versus those consuming cheese less than 2 times/week.
2. UK people: total dairy intake was associated with 7% lower risk of cardiovascular disease and 14% lower risk of stroke.
3. Chinese people: no association with cardiovascular disease and 6% lower risk of stroke.
You know that public health advice to avoid saturated fat?
It's drivel, always was, based on weak /non-existent science.
And this study is not a new discovery - emerging science has been getting similar results for 15 years.
Dietitians or nutrition expert who tell people to cut back on sat fat from whole foods like dairy are a menace to a society - and have been for the last 40 years.
Time they learned a little humility....
"Less than 0.1% โ one thousandth โ of Ireland is now ancient forest, compared, for eg, to 2.5% in England, ie over 25x less.
But itโs even worse: here, most of these tiny refuges are being killed off by overgrazing."

Nobody ever planted a tree in this photo. It was a working gravel pit 30 years ago.
We need to get over our obsession with planting trees and let nature do the job. The results are just SO much better.
It's also about realising we are not, in fact, central to everything. ๐
I'm not keen on Mercusor....but whilst standards arounds safety/traceability/hormones are better here, I think we need a reality check around Irish beef production from an environment/biodiversity point of view

It's mad. Cats
Were domesticated by people
Are fed by people
Are housed by people
Are brought to the vet by people (etc...)
Yet when they go out killing countless native wildlife, people still think that's somehow "part of nature" ๐. It's NOT.
Sorry if I don't celebrate a GHG drop due to imported electricity (increased UK GHG?), & bad weather reducing milk production & stopping lime spreading (lime needed to decrease future agri emissions)

A packed hall of farmers in Upperchurch, Co Tipperary tonight.
The ban on the use of splash plates from 1 January has raised health and safety concerns among local hill farmers.
โUsing LESS in the hills is dangerous, unworkable and putting the safety of farmers at riskโ
Todays edition of โeverything I donโt like is UPFโ. From the people who think steaks fall out of cows like that, I bring you washing and cooking the industrial processing methods.
Wonderful couple of days at #Ploughing, congratulations to all involved.
