A few highlights from this summer. Looking forward to High School ball!

My second highlighted game of the Marble City Invitational was an absolute barn burner between Elite Empire ‘29 and TN Trotters ‘29, the kind of game you feel building before it even tips.

The Trotters came out cookin, jumping on Empire early and punching out to a 16-6 lead behind tough defense and confident scoring. But Empire didn’t blink. They tightened the screws defensively, flipped the energy in the gym, and clamped down hard, holding the Trotters to just 6 points the rest of the half to cut it to 22-15 at the break. You could feel the shift coming.

Then the third quarter turned into a full-on offensive showcase. Both teams started trading blows, bucket for bucket, possession for possession. Empire kept pushing and finally broke through, taking their first lead of the game at 42-38 heading into the fourth. That set the stage for a closing stretch that had everybody locked in.

The fourth quarter was pure will against will. Big shot after big shot. Big stop after big stop. Neither side gave an inch. With 38.2 seconds left and the score tied at 52-52, it turned into a race of nerves and execution. Stops on both ends, bodies flying, nothing free. Then it happened. A steal, a quick push ahead, and #21 @witt_jaonna finished the break with a go-ahead layup with 10.2 left to make it 54-52. The Trotters had one last chance, but couldn’t get it to fall before the buzzer.

What a game.

Elite Empire was powered by a trio that brought it all night. #21 @witt_jaOnna led all scorers with 13 points and delivered the biggest moment of the night. #2 @daisy_gentry06 and #12 @NoraAuten11 each added 11, stepping up in key moments to keep the pressure on. For the Trotters, #14 @averiesteadman and #25 @miliana_25 both finished with 10, leading the charge and setting the tone early in a battle that came down to the final seconds.

The squad is heading back home to warmer weather and rolling hills after a productive weekend. It’s time to get ready for Louisville before we get back with our HS teams.

We finally had the whole squad and got a solid weekend getting better at the Marble City Classic. Thanks to @_BlakeDerrick and @InsiderExposure for giving our girls a chance to play in front of coaches. Time to get ready for Cincinnati!
