Alan Bates turned down an OBE as Paula Vennells, the woman in charge of the Post Office through the Horizon Scandal, retains her CBE and refuses to give it back.
A man of honour 🙏🏼❤️

Alan, 69: “The first thing that sprang to my mind while reading the letter (offering me an OBE) was Paula Vennells still had a CBE. I felt so deeply insulted. She presided over a policy of harassing hundreds of innocent people. It’s not just that the Government hasn’t asked her to return it. What’s even worse is that despite knowing the strength of feeling about it, how people have suffered and some cases died on her watch – she doesn’t feel inclined to give it back.”
Alan accepted a @PrideOfBritain award in 2023.
We were over the moon to give that to him.

Tracy Felstead was 19 when she was convicted of stealing £11,500 from the Post Office, where she was a counter clerk
She was accused by a judge of showing no remorse and was wrongly jailed for 6 months
She attempted suicide after being falsely accused

The most tragic part of #PostOfficeScandal is that those people believed in the British Justice system
They believed that they could just tell the truth and it would be OK
And it wasn't
I’d rather live next door to someone who crossed the oceans with a child to escape death and violence than a citizen who wouldn’t cross the street to help a foreigner.
This was not a dangerous dog & he did not deserve to be killed by Metropolitan police with a shotgun. I will discuss further with @TVKev on @TalkTV at 5.15pm tune in
