8 Jan 1026 was the terrible day when the marauder Mahmud Ghazni waged a war on Somnath temple, killing some 50k defendants & pulling the ancient temple down. That he refused to bargain for wealth in lieu of the Linga displayed his theological motives & not just loot. But from Bhimdeva I, Bhoja Paramara, Jayasimha Siddharaja, Kumarapala, Mahipala, Kanhadadeva, Veer Hammir ji Gohil to Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar of the dynasties of Chaulukya Solankis, Vaghelas, Maru Chauhans of Jalore, Chudasamas of Junagarh, the Gohil Rajputs & Holkars of Indore; the iconoclastic attempts of successive barbarians after Ghazni, like Alauddin Khilji, Zaffar Khan, Ahmed Shah, Mahmud Begada & Aurangzeb were all defied & temples kept springing up every time they were destroyed.

Ultimately with the vision of Sardar Patel & efforts of KM Munshi, the temple came up in grandeur after independence, despite the vehement opposition of PM Nehru as evidenced in his letters of strong displeasure to President Rajendra Prasad & Jam Saheb of Junagarh.

Somnath stands tall & grand today as a symbol of resilience and resistance of Bharat's eternal civilizational strength and continuity.

— Rai Mandalik I (Chudasama) who started the temple’s reconstruction.

— Rai Khangar ji (Chudasama) who completed the reconstruction & installed a 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙫𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 there.

जल्द ही फ़िल्म “इक्कीस” रिलीज़ होने जा रही है, जो 1971 की जंग में शहीद हुए लेफ्टिनेंट अरुण खेत्रपाल पर आधारित है। लेकिन इस कहानी का एक अहम नाम और रहा है : लेफ्टिंनेंट जनरल हनुत सिंह राठौड़।

1971 के बसंतर युद्ध में 17 पूना हॉर्स रेजिमेंट की कमान लेफ्टिंनेंट जनरल हनुत ���िंह के हाथ में थी। दुश्मन के भारी टैंकों के सामने उनका एक ही आदेश था: “कोई भी टैंक एक इंच भी पीछे नहीं हटेगा।”

यही शब्द सेक���ंड लेफ्टिनेंट अरुण खेत्रपाल के लिए मंत्र बन गए। उनका टैंक जलता रहा, लेकिन उन्होंने दुश्मन के टैंक नष्ट किए और अंततः देश के लिए सर्वोच्च बलिदान दिया। अरुण खेत्रपाल को मिला परमवीर चक्र और इस पूरी जीत की नींव रखने वाले हुनत सिंह को मिला महावीर चक्र, उनकी असाधारण नेतृत्व क्षमता के लिए।

इतना शौर्य, इतनी योग्यता, फिर भी लेफ्टिंनेंट जनरल हनुत सिंह को आर्मी चीफ नहीं बनाया गया। उन्होंने बस इतना कहा, “अगर उन्हें मैं नहीं चाहिए, तो नुकसान उनका है।” यह वाक्य सेना की संस्था पर सवाल नहीं, बल्कि व्यवस्था की सीमाओं को उजागर करता है।

यह भी एक तथ्य है कि राजपूत समुदाय ने सदियों से देश की रक्षा में अपना महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया है। लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल हनुत सिंह, जनरल सगत सिंह, जनरल वी.के. सिंह और जनरल बिपिन रावत जैसे सेनानायक इस परंपरा के उज्ज्वल उदाहरण हैं। इसके बावजूद, कई बार उनके योगदान को वह व्यापक सार्वजनिक पहचान या सिनेमा और लोकप्रिय मीडिया में वह स्थान नहीं मिल पाता, जो उनके त्याग और नेतृत्व के अनुरूप हो।

Dhurandhar is technically good cinema, but it is also pure, unadulterated, and unacceptable propaganda. You don't need to see the full 3.4-hour film to conclude that. I haven't. Now you have to hear me out before you go out to watch this piece of gratuitous gore wrapped in a spy thriller cover.

Aditya Dhar is an insidious bigot, proven by his deliberate choice to show Pakistan in a poor light. He could have chosen Mauritius, which has beaches where the lady spy could prance in a bikini. But no, he chose the lovely Lyari in Karachi. Do we not have kachchi aabadi in India?

My bigotry of low expectations is so profound that I patronisingly conflate 25 crore Indian Muslims with Pakistan, and by extension, Islam, and therefore, I cannot endorse this 'Islamophobia.'

​I must offer my disservice now by preemptively attributing motives to Dhar and questioning the existence of any cinema, however well-made, that my indoctrinated intellect can't easily process.

I haven't seen the film, and I hope I don't like it when I do. My review will follow, but for now, know this: This is not my India. This is not my Bollywood.

Wait for my review where I will condemn the chutzpah of Dhar and pan his big outing after watching the film. Also, Yami shouldn't have married this man. She is a bigot too. Deepika shouldn't have married the nutcase who looks brilliant as the protagonist. She is a bigot too. Compromised by JP Nadda with a brand ambassador role. Also, anybody who watches this film is a bigot. Except the critic with a conscience, like me.

Rating: Dhurandhar gets 0 stars. It's an assault on our collective lack of conscience.
