@sandmanute@JamesPreuss ๐คฆโโ๏ธ we were talking about 1st x as a maternal not after you put a Dorset over them. Our town claims itโs the prime lamb capital of NSW. Fair chance itโs decent sheep country.
@sandmanute@JamesPreuss For a 1st x? Not a chance. We used to breed them so well aware of what they can do. As for claiming all shedding sheep taste like shit lanolin is what causes the smell when cooking and guess what haired sheep donโt have
@sandmanute@JamesPreuss Our average yield hovers around 52-53%. There wouldnโt be a bl/m lamb on the planet that would do that. We are not in poor country
@sandmanute@JamesPreuss Anything self replacing because you actually have genetic control. I have trouble understanding why crossing two slow growing, low yielding breeds could be still considered the best maternal. We used to have them and Iโd never go back.
@JamesPreuss Donโt take too much notice of anyone that says shedders donโt taste good. All our wethers end up in high end restaurants and itโs a fair chance those chefโs would know a thing or two about meat quality
@Agrivetbusiness@colinearl2 Iโd like to know how a sheep that can lamb at 12mths, lamb every 8mths and consistently turn off 28kg cwt lambs at 20-22 weeks could be the least profitable by a long way? We used to run xbโs and ๐ฐper ha the xbโs donโt compare.
@tellenby Had Aussie whites for over 10 years. Definitely donโt need shearing if they are the genuine article. But there are a lot of horribly bred sheep that ppl try to claim are AW. Generally hook lambs around 20 weeks 26-28kgcw 53-54% av yield
