@ModestTeacher Most are not. Most are orchestrating dynamic lesson and activities, hands-on projects, real-world learning, simulations, design thinking, and group collaboration throughout their units. More could be done, but teachers are change agents 👊
I made a massive AP US History Review slides w/ #peardeck and it’s totally free on my site! Comprehensive but not an insane amount of work for students as they prep for the #APUSH exam!

1 strategy I use to ensure AI isn’t doing all the work for students on their essays, is to have them do a 2 minute, no notes presentation on their essay. “What was your thesis, strongest evidence, and what was most challenging with this topics?” Works pretty well. #chatgpt4
For us teachers the single best way to be confident #chaptgpt or AI didn’t write their whole essay, is to simply know your students. Know their skills, their style, and their voice.
Reading just a sentence or two, you should be able to recognize if it’s your student or AI.
Yes, ARM TEACHERS!
Arm them w/ an adequate salary
Arm them w/ ample time to plan, prep, & grade
Arm them w/ 21 century resources to prepare 21 century citizens
Arm them w/ support from admin, parents, and the community
Arm them w/ the freedom to teach to their students needs
So much has been added to teachers’ plates and daily responsibilities over the last three years that, at this point, requiring us to be armed and trained to take down active shooters- got some of us like - “sure, WTF not.”

Teachers -
Don’t fall into the trap of teaching for the likes. Its great to develop close relationships with students but fundamentally, you are their teacher and that means you need to administer tough love at times. Even if they will resent it- they need it.
Reminder to teachers- a classroom full of students silently reading is engagement. Its not as sexy as building 3D models or a breakout room but it’s probably exactly what your students need.

Clearly the old adage, “If all your friends jumped off a bridge…” needs to be updated to, “If there was a tiktok challenge of kids jumping off a bridge…”
Parents and teachers- get on this!
@edutopia If you grade it, it grows. So yes. Prioritize participation, engagement, and thoughtful effort and students will develop into curious learners and that’s what we need. If we only grade assessments that’s a sign that’s all we care about.
Teachers- if you want to have a big impact in the classroom while avoiding burnout, master the simple but effective strategies and routines.
Don’t chase the fancy and complex.
Great teachers implement the basics with mastery every class.

In 30 years teaching has totally transformed. Teachers no longer just lecture or hand out textbooks for students to quietly read. Today, teachers are creating dynamic and original learning experiences for their students. Every single day. Teacher pay should reflect these changes.
So much talk about learning loss, nothing about learning gain.
I saw students become more independent and self-directed, more resilient, and accountable. They worked through constant distractions and poor connections.
They will soar next year in our classrooms.
