Sport specific training is a scam
I have worked with athletes in 30+ sports
And a majority of our training looks the same
The things we differentiate are:
✅ Novice vs Advanced Athlete
✅ In-season vs Off-season training
✅ 2 Days Of Training Vs 3 Days Of Training
✅ Year Round Commitment vs Seasonal Commitment
All of my athletes will do some type of the following:
▫️Resisted sprints
▫️Unresisted sprints
▫️Braking drills
▫️Change of direction drills
▫️Plyometrics
▫️Bounds
▫️Aerobic development
▫️Olympic Lifts
▫️Squats
▫️Presses
▫️Pulls
Don’t fall for gimmicks
Most athletes of all sports need a majority of the same training
Beautiful graphic here from @FranSilverPT on exercise prescription and progression for the plyometric continuum, not sure I have time to fit it into my presentation for #RehabInSport today!
Thanks to everyone for their recommendations. I am excited to announce the Rehab in sport for the S&C coach webinar will be happening next week. Times TBC with a few more presenters still to be added #RehabInSport
Training the lower body in lock down to maintain peak force qualities is probably the hardest task without decent equipment. Doing body weight squats to sets of infinity isn’t going to cut it.
Some of these strategies may help elicit some more meaningful adaptations:

I’m a big fan of the landmine....... Whether rehab, prehab or good old fashioned S and C work it’s fantastic for all athletes and patients.
Check out these variations I use with endurance athletes - give them a try and see what you think 👍

We highlight some challenges and solutions for this important area in LTAD
Like strength training, plyometric exercises should be progressed based on their complexity, velocity, force exposure, and risk. Check out this great article to help you programme increasingly challenging plyometrics. https://t.co/DPC9McIbZp

Only 30% of ACLR patients completed plyometrics & agility prior to returning to sport (Ebert et al, 2017). Here's some options to get ACLR patients better prepared for sport based on @lachlan_wilmot plyometric continuum.
