I released a new track last week. This was my first time working with a producer - the very talented Daniel Okonek. The song is called "The Silent Watcher". Cover art by Spencer Robens. I hope you enjoy it!

I once heard a software engineer say "It's our job to say what's impossible." But I believe almost the opposite of this.
To me, the job of engineers is to *figure it out*, whatever the constraints—the tougher, the better!

By the way in case you were wondering how I distribute on Spotify etc., I use @DistroKid - recommended! They also generate neat promo images for you, like this - although doesn't quite work here since the cover art doesn't include title. 😆 #distrokid

@defunkt Glad to see your account has been restored already. 🙂
That said... in all seriousness, you are always welcome to try Bitbucket! (Who knows, you might like it!)
For my latest musical creation I went in an entirely different direction and made an epic 21-minute EDM track. 😮

For any EDM listeners out there: what genre is this? I don't listen to this type of music myself so I don't even know!
It's interesting that a popular term for when AI surpasses human level general intelligence is "singularity". I feel like "event horizon" would be more apt while still evolving black holes.
@GregHuntoon@figma@miggi Hey @GregHuntoon could you raise a support request with Atlassian here? This will help our incident response team resolve the issue as quickly as possible. So sorry for the inconvenience! https://t.co/85ohcPv5C4
I am taking the Advanced Learning Algorithms course by @AndrewYNg and learning about decision trees. Very disappointing that a group of trees is called a "Tree ensemble". Boring! Why not Forest? Grove? Orchard? Copse?
So many other options!

I am skeptical that there is any advice that would be valuable to all people.
Sometimes what you need to hear isn't what everyone else needs to hear.

On ice cubes and hot soup (and more generally on wanting to drive change vs. resist change):

TL;DR sometimes you're the ice cubes, sometimes you're the soup.
The problem with "Hope for the best, plan for the worst": when you only hope for something, you aren't thinking through the details, leaving you unprepared when it actually happens.
It should be "Plan for the best, plan for the worst."

My attempt at a summary of the seminal paper "Attention Is All You Need", which introduced transformers to the world of LLMs.

Right or not, my brain noticed a connection to the movie Arrival in which an alien language is circular rather than linear.
I read "Moore's Law for Everything" by @sama and it was much less a picture of utopia than I expected. Turns out it's mostly a proposal about how to roll out new tax policy!

@davidchalmers42 To add another one to the pile: I did my best to capture the argument as a set of premises that combine to form a logical conclusion.

I might play with this some more but I think it covers the major pieces of the argument for AI existential risk.
