@TheTopLife True. The show is not meant to be an accurate description of what really happened (even the scheduling of games in the last episode is fiction), but the show does - almost deliberately - paint West as an insufferable, short fused, tool.

@marilynlabasque @simonsinek An alternative perspective, and more in the context of the post, is just as in accounting there's the rule of going concern, a leader doesn't lead expecting things will turn out poorly. A leader leads through downturns, but always with the expectation things will turn out well.
