@LuisSchang@herodowntown@HerpesAdvocate I am a scientist too. Always open to others’ ideas and interpretations even if they differ from my own. Follow up niclosamide trials have already been funded. Excited for future results.
@LuisSchang@herodowntown@HerpesAdvocate This is your opinion and that’s fine. No interest in spending the holiday fighting with strangers on a dying platform haha. Happy new year!
@LuisSchang@herodowntown@HerpesAdvocate Agreed. The study MAY have had an effect. Is misguided to rule this drug out completely based on one underpowered (but promising) study
@LuisSchang@herodowntown@HerpesAdvocate Respectfully disagree. That’s not how power calculations work at all. This study had 67 participants and was almost statistically significant.
@LuisSchang@herodowntown@HerpesAdvocate The published results actually did show activity. Niclosamide decreased viral shedding and duration of symptoms. Problem was small study size not the drug.
@trailrunner402@DonEford@danaparish@POTUS Based on positive findings there are ongoing follow up studies but companies won’t fund off-patent drugs bc they can’t make profit. Covid is all about money.
@trailrunner402@DonEford@danaparish@POTUS This wasn’t because the drug didn’t work. Many enrolled patients were asymptomatic/mild and resolved quickly diluting pool. Moderate cases saw reduction in symptoms (5 days) and contagiousness (3 days) with niclosamide.
@Anisopterid Actually the issue was that many enrolled patients were not very sick so niclosamide’s effect was muted. Ones with more moderate disease saw reduced contagiousness and symptoms with niclosamide
@Aller_MD It was very close to achieving significance - small sample size. Reduction in symptom duration ~5 days in patients with moderate disease and higher risk
