Donegal Castle dates from the15th century and was once the stronghold of the O'Donnell Family. In the 1670's the castle came into the ownership of the Gore family. In 1898 the castle was vested in the Office of Public Works. The keep was restored in the 1990's.

Bringing evergreens into the domestic dwelling at #Christmas is a custom of great antiquity. Holly, ivy and mistletoe, for example, were seen as life symbols and hugely symbolic for the well-being of the home for the coming year. Still time to pick up a few sprigs :) #UCDadvent
