Manchester United fans unveiled a pro-immigration banner during Sunday’s fixture against Crystal Palace in response to comments from minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The banner was displayed by supporters in the corner over the tunnel at Old Trafford before the second half of the Premier League match kicked off.
It read: “MUFC proudly colonised by immigrants” and pictured seven international players who have represented the club: France’s Eric Cantona and Patrice Evra, Park Ji-sung of South Korea, Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes, Norway’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Amad of the Ivory Coast and Brazil’s Casemiro.
In February, Ratcliffe said in an interview with Sky he believed the United Kingdom has been “colonised by immigrants”.

For reference, the youngest bride ever married to a Saudi man against her will was 424 minutes old, a full 14 minutes younger than Newcastles last goal
Eddie Howe with questions to answer
Regardless of what you think United should be paying SAF, this topic should not be getting more coverage than budget cuts from earlier this year - which included funding/benefits/facilities for the women's team and club employees outside the men's team and coaching staff
In a general well-meaning and balanced analysis here, @bey0ndthem4sk still resorts to some common myths and misconceptions about United’s issues.
Namely, he goes back to resurfacing debunked theories about ETH allegedly sacrificing a year to build something amazing & players not able to cope with this grand vision.
A modest thread 👇🧵
🔴 “In his first season, Ten Hag adapted to United’s players completely and saw success. Success would not have been sustainable this way, though. Hence, last season, he ripped up the roots and laid new foundations. This led to a lot of difficulty, with the squad mostly not ready to carry out his demands”
This is a notorious theory promoted by @tekzts (who later tried to back-pedal from it), which states that ETH threw away last season to raise the squad’s levels.
It has been thoroughly debunked on all levels and it makes absolutely no sense. Simply said, it’s not true that a horror show was needed to progress the game model or raise levels.
Not squad on this good Earth would have been able to carry out last yearM’s demands; they were deeply flawed, constantly taken apart by teams of much lesser levels of individual quality.
- forcing the players to run pointlessly is not how physical levels are raised (great pieces by @guillaumevdwege)
- a combo of high press & low block is not “ building a new foundation” for anything; it’s just a bad game model
- a hysterical build-up with no patterns and direct balls launched too early is not building anything, either
- players who previously played in a high line & deep build-up suddenly didn’t do so: clearly due to intent and not lack of skills (@TheDevilsDNA has basically done PhD-level work on this)
- players who could have added control sat on the bench (Eriksen, Amrabar, Amad…)
More importantly, it was ETH himself who clearly stated what his goal for last year was: to make us more direct.
And more direct with was the exact problem we’ve had in all phases of the game.
It was not a case of ETH throwing away the season for the greater good, it was a case of the manager taking a wrong tactical turn after a solid first season.
Instead of building on that towards what Slot & Flick are now trying to do at Liverpool & Barcelona, verticality & control combined, Ten Hag went the other way. And it backfired. It backfired hard.
Now that in recent games we went back to things that worked in 2022 / 2023, we managed to look more coherent and compact.
This flat-earthism and copium about ripping the roots to plant something new really needs to stop; the sooner peope accept that last season was a tactical miscalculation, the better.
United have some really strong fundamentals / squad-pieces to build on, man.
A lot of potential to this squad, just need to maximise their *best* players and continue raising the technical/physical floor while finding the profiles they need.
👍.
Fighting for your country should be about helping out at your local homeless shelter. Making sure the schools around you have enough supplies for the new term and new books. It's knowing your neighbour and looking after your community. Not this bricks and bats stuff.
@pkwestel They need to drop someone. Way too many ball to feet players and no outlets or runners. Jude run from deep can't be your only way to score in open play. It's why Rashford drop makes even lesser sense.
