What does the Ethereum Foundation STEEL Team do?
STEEL is the EF team responsible for Specifications & Testing for the Ethereum Execution Layer ⚔️🛡️
A relatively new team that ensures that EL:
1️⃣ Specs are clear & correct📐✅
2️⃣ Clients are adequately tested before forks🧪
5️⃣ Code is Law: Avoiding Spec-ulation for Faster Forks with @danceratopz & @raxhvl
The propose accelerating Ethereum forks by tightly coupling EIP markdown with executable specs, ensuring every text change is instantly verified by code to eliminate ambiguity.

Fusaka has finalized on Ethereum Mainnet!
On top of that, we have successfully concluded our Mainnet testing round of all Fusaka EL functionality!

🧵Thread Series (1/3): STEEL at Ethereum Foundation
1/ This last summer I worked at Ethereum Foundation (@ethereumfndn) as one of their first official interns. My work was with the STEEL team, specifically on the EELS side of things.
What does that mean? Lets unpack...

@SCBuergel@URozmej @HyperledgerBesu @ErigonEth@nethermind@ethnimbus@paradigm@go_ethereum@ethPandaOps This would be a fantastic situation. Thanks for creating awareness. The JSON RPC isn't currently one of STEEL's responsibilities:

Personally I think it'd make sense for us to maintain these tests & help clients debug fails as for EVM consensus tests.

@hanni_abu@leolarav@ChodoKamil@marcin_d_s Wrt to specs & testing, many EF Teams such as Prototyping, zkEVM, Security and @StatelessEth collab w/us & add test cases. While EL client devs may not become regular contributors to tests, we will do more to encourage knowledge sharing to nail edge cases & gain coverage faster..

@hanni_abu@leolarav The EL client ecosystem otoh didn't have such a level progression🙂There's still a lot of collaboration & knowledge sharing among EL teams tho most apparent in efforts to optimize implementations & #pumpthegas. Shout out to @ChodoKamil@marcin_d_s & others for fostering this!⛽⚡
@hanni_abu So EELS and EEST were to some extent inspired by the consensus-layer specs. On the CL side, it's a more collaborative effort with many CL client teams actively contributing test cases to the repo. But we do have a STEEL team member that also contributes there @leolarav 🙌
