Today, @GetKoho announced $130M in new capital at a $1.33B valuation.
We’re very happy to welcome Mubadala, Savano Capital, @tobi, CEO, Founder of Shopify, and Michael Linford, COO of Affirm, to the KOHO story. We’re also grateful for the continued support of Drive Capital, Portage Ventures, Eldridge, BDC Capital, and HOOPP.
One of my favourite things about KOHO is that the only way we win is if millions of Canadians choose us. We cannot out-spend or out-market. We have to out-build. The progress we have made reflects the progress our users have made.
So, while we feel very proud of what’s behind us, we’re much more humbled by what’s in front of us. With this capital, we’ve earned the right to keep building on our promise to users. That job remains monumental, and we’re very honoured that we get to do the work.
I want to thank the team for their incredible work these past few years. The world doesn’t yet know how talented, smart and kind the KOHO Collective is - but they will.
I want to thank our investors for their continued trust and support. We’re lucky to have partners who recognize and support the need to take the longer view here.
More than anything, I want to thank our users. We’ve come a long way with much farther to go. We’ll keep earning your trust every damn day.
Back to work 🔥
More of this pls.
If we want to get more of our best people in public service, we need to stop eliminating everyone who isn't independently wealthy or willing to take a 70% paycut.
Singapore's Prime Minister will earn S$3.6M a year from October 15th. That's about $2.84M, equal to a 64% raise.
Before someone feels outraged by that, let me remind that this was Lee Kuan Yew's recipe to avoid corruption. The logic was simple. If you pay ministers at market rate, nobody needs to buy them.
Personally, I've never understood why, to be an accountant reviewing and filing accounts with the State, you need a degree, exams passed, continuous education etc. To run the State itself: nothing.
Doesn't make too much sense, no?
Not to sound like a broken record, but Singapore's model is extremely reasonable: 35% of ministerial pay is variable. The National Bonus, as it's called, is set by four indicators: real median income growth, real income growth of the bottom 20%, unemployment, and real GDP growth.
So their pay is tied to how the country actually performs. Not to how well they campaign.
BC's @NDP;
Oversees the largest budget deficit in BC's history at $13.1B.
Does the math wrong on gas royalties, overstating revenues by $1.5B (probably much more).
Oversees the largest expansion of administrative state costs in BC's history.
I'm all for more nurses, doctors, and teachers, but the fastest-growing portion is administrators.
Education: The class-size-to-teacher ratio is ~24:1, way above the target of 1:16, education proficiency scores have dropped 20 points, mental health resources are worse at 1 counsellor per 693 kids (250 is recommended).
Health: Doctor wait times are up 30%, and 1.2M BC residents (20% of the province) are in a backlog for a specialist. To give you a flavour, a recent job posting for a public health accounting role stated "accounting" 4 times and "anti-racism" 17 times (since deleted).
Creates mass confusion and gaslighting around Canadian sovereignty and Freehold land (DRIPA literally means our Supreme Court must interpret actions in compliance with UNDRIP).
Raises taxes to pay for it all, then blames Trump and tariffs.
I love BC, and I love the people here but this is self-immolation.
The future of transport is safer, more enjoyable & gives you more time back

Terry Fox was ready to quit. Almost nobody was watching him run the Marathon of Hope.
Then one hotelier who’d lost his own son to cancer pledged $10,000 to help start the largest cancer fundraiser on earth.
46 years on from the Marathon of Hope, this is Isadore Sharp. 🇨🇦
We just announced the largest clean energy investment in North American history.
In partnership with Québec and Newfoundland and Labrador, we’re going to nearly triple the current generating capacity of Churchill Falls — delivering more clean, reliable, and affordable power for Canadians and supporting more than 20,000 good jobs.

No, this is what you should see.
We have a workforce that is too old and too expensive in Canada. Average wages should come down as youth employment rises.
BC has a health care crisis - Wait times, patient outcomes, staffing shortages are all bad and getting worse.
In a job where the function is essentially an accounting degree + 12 years of experience - how many great, productive candidates will meet the following additional requirements?
'Demonstrated knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples...including clear understanding of and commitment to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism...
Additionally, it involves embedding Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility, and an advanced expertise and unwavering dedication to engaging with diversity, centering equity, and advancing inclusion (DEI)...
Brings an understanding of the Indigenous-specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure...
Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments...
Demonstrated knowledge of the social, economic, political realities of settler-colonialism and impacts on Indigenous peoples...'
We are past the part of performative signalling and into legitimately dangerous practices.
Wow. Just wow. 👀
The NDP’s radical ideology has been driven into every part of the public sector, and here’s how they do it:
The Provincial Health Services Authority is hiring a Director of Business Planning with a salary of $170,000/year. 💵
But, to be eligible, you must:
✅ Pledge your allegiance to undoing the harms of “settler colonialism” in the “colonial health care structure,”
✅ Demonstrate your “unwavering dedication” to DEI,
✅ Show your “personal learning/unlearning journey in relation to Indigenous-specific racism” and “dismantling systems of oppression.”
There are only two “Core Competencies” listed, and *BOTH* pertain to understanding Indigenous-specific racism, systemic racism and anti-racism etc.
These ideological demands are not optional. They make up the bulk of the “qualifications,” “core competencies” and “skills & knowledge” specified for this senior role in BC’s broken healthcare system.
With ERs regularly closing and people dying on waitlists, the NDP continue to put their radical activism ahead of outcomes for everyday British Columbians.
