Please watch this amazing short film of the scientists and volunteers I work with to study freshwater #mussels. I can hardly wait for August so I can go #MusselGrubbing again with @IL_RiverWatch - and I'd love for you to join me!! https://t.co/H991lXJqma
I don't post here much anyway, but I don't expect to be back for awhile. The changes to Twitter (oh, sorry, "the X") are absurd and disturbing. I'm not deactivating in the hopes that there's a turnaround (though autofill thought a tornado would be better).
@RiverChem My phone number was on the PVC housing on my loggers. Got a call from a middle/high school kid that he found one. I went to check it and someone had broken open the housing (couldn't unscrew the cap?) and taken the logger. 😣 Why? Can't sell it or use it!
The list of well deserved recognition and awards keeps growing! We love this film because it really shows that citizen science and learning new skills is for everyone! @DanelleHaake

@AimlessZealot @oldenoughtosay All else equal, higher salt concentrations should increase the rate of corrosion. There are differences based on temperature, duration of exposure, & the type of salt. My experience is more in the biological consequences of salt, which have many of the same influencing factors!
@AimlessZealot @oldenoughtosay In many cold climates, the metal supports in our transportation infrastructure (roads, bridges) are vulnerable regardless since we use millions of tons of salt for pavement deicing.
New Trail Blazer grant from @TWS_SDWG@TWSearlycareer supports purchase of field gear by under-represented minority students and early career professionals in wildlife science. Open to TWS members. Apply by May 31. Details at https://t.co/a9VNvuhJdf
Hey, @TMobile, why are you spamming my work email?! I never asked to be added to your list. I unsubscribed a couple of weeks ago. I just got 2 emails from you in 10 minutes. STOP!

The call for proposals is now open for LTAW! We have 3 tracks to choose from, including creating your own film! https://t.co/cKRTO0nB70

It's incredible seeing the transition from degraded, single-thread streams into expansive beaver-engineered wetlands. And it only took a handful of #beavers to do this. Imagine what the continent and the rivers looked like prior to the Fur Trade, back when beavers were abundant!
Being a scientist, I had to check the math. Turns out it's even worse. You could have made $53,000 (£44,000) a day or $20 million per year since Jesus was born and still not make the profits Shell did in 2022.
@JCACharles@ninjagirlphd@denise_dewald Many of the teens I know are less self centered than the adults. They are building their own supportive community that values equity, acceptance, and caring for those in need.
For those curious, @UWMadison uses 150-350 tons of salt on it's (25 miles?) of campus roads every year. Double that if you add in sidewalks and parking lots. Total use in 2018/19 was over 900 tons.
@UWArboretum uses 0 most years (1.9 tons in 2020/21).
Are electric cars better for the climate than petrol or diesel?
Yes, in almost all cases.
In my latest Substack, I go through all the numbers: https://t.co/a7IfnZqFY9
BREAKING: An immense step forward. Pope Francis calls for the decriminalization of homosexuality worldwide: "Declaring such laws 'unjust,' Francis said the Catholic Church can and should work to put an end to them. 'It must do this. It must do this.'"

@AlexEpstein@jordanbpeterson "I've never thought of this before..."
Yea, it shows. Read something on climate science that's less than 30 years old and maybe you'll get a clue.
